then I wouldn't be in this predicament!=( If money is no object, I would have picked the PAM21 and end of story. However, I'm faced with a tough decision to choose either the PAM249 or PAM232. Currently, I'm leaning towards the PAM249 (unique historical Cali dial and beautiful movement) but I'm also attracted to the sandwich dial of the PAM232 (downside being it has solid back). Please advise, thanks.

There is one solution: Take both!

Historically, the Vintage Rad had a solid case back, except some protos.

So the 232 is 100% correct.

I went for the Cali, because of its dial, and I regreted to not have a solid case back...

The movement in the Cali is a basic ETA, not a super high end finished movement, but an honest one, which is designed as a Rolex Cortebert, if you pay attention to that detail.

So, you won't be wrong with each of these 2, if you can't afford both.

I'd go for the Cali, but it is just me.

is spending more wrist time than 249 as the 249 feels very light for me, because of the case back.

And would have actually preferred the 249 to have come in a solid case back since the plexi in addition to the display back makes the watch feel too light.

I guess if you can only have one the Cali is the way to go since Panerai is unlikely to release another Rad with this dial (except the 349) any time soon.

The PAM 349 is not a true representation of the Cali dial due to the addition of a small second subdial and way overpriced. 

As amanico said, it's historically accurate. However, I find it to be a very difficult position to be in when you're faced with having to pick either of the two - 232 or 249. Throw in a 127, and you'll just succumb like some who'll end up with all 3

All winners, in my books...

For me it was a major plus point when I bought mine.

 

But as you know Panerai is more than a passion.... it is an addiction.
