As the global financial markets are collapsing everyday, given the target customer of Panerai are mainly professionals and entrepreneurs, would such environment affect the sales of Panerai? Or these customers simply start to pull back and become less self-indulge?
At certain stage, these luxury product will get affected as people feel less upbeat.....
Any view on this??

It depends on what Panerai will offer in a very next future...
I really think that whatever is the Economical cirucmstances, if Panerai releases a 47mm base Luminor, you can be sure that they will go, crisis or not, in a very short time.
That's only my opinion, but I think that yes, it depends on what Panerai has to offer...
Best.

I wonder when most of the US financial institutions are going belly up and still can't resolve the crisis.... maybe people will need more pams? As money is really useless... its better to keep something tangible then the money in your account.
That are either wealthy or willing to buy some pam models. These models wont be affected.
alepos
a 203 at the fair and right price

This is a long time gone dream, my friend...

It could go in either way I guess.
You can get people spending less money on luxury goods such as watches since they'll have less discretionary income.
But on the flip side, you can have people pull money out of stocks and allocate those funds to other investments such as art, cars, and watches which may seem more "safe" than the ailing prices of equities. Sector rotation to non traditional assets and investments?
Cheers,
Anthony
Many investors in stock exchange they give up the stock and they just try to clear their portfolio to wait and see.
They are interesting in investment which is high liquidity. What a watch, or even straps?
Some of Panerai, PP, Rolex Vintage had post to sell with second or minutes will be post that pending fund transfer.
I met some of big investors and discussed each other, they move their port to invest in watch............that's why price is still so high nowadays.
Cheer!
You guys can check this out, using Advance Google Trend Search and compare these 2 brands.
Check out the world demand and number of hits in Panerai vs Patek, if you like you can specify the region and see respective search hits for different countries.
Both brands' hits have declined this year. Here is the link:

Hiii,....guys I am new to Panerai but I have spoken to several ppl in the watch industry and fellow collectors. I have a friend who works with Richemont, it seems that sales for Cartier and Panerai has gone up aspecially Cartier. 2008 Annual Report Sales of Richemont Specialist watchmakers namely A. lange, Piaget, JLC, Vachron, Panerai, IWC and Baume & Mercier went up from 1203 million Euro to 1378 million Euro. As my fellow collectors friend told me tht historiclly ppl with wealth or money tend to invest in watches when there is an economic down turn or economic slowdown because watches like Rolex, Patek, AP, FP Journe, Lange and the new red hot Panerai hold their value and some appreciates. It is also true watch prices do not fluctuate as much as stock.
The big question is do we buy collect watches because we like it due to its fine craftmanship and aesthetic value or Investment ? I know some collectors collect watches in two categories 1) for its craftmenship & aesthetic value 2) for investment. Some collectors do wear their watch and some keep it in safe. I know some collectors collect over 50 watches, they love the watch so much tht they do not wear them. Some collectors buy watches to be kept in safe & sells them within 2 to 5 years but some buys them and flip it because they get the privillage to buy (limited production or limited editions) it first as they are close with AD. Some collectors sells their watches because they want to buy other watches this is great.
I collect watches because of its craftmanship, quality, and aesthetic value.
Cheers guys

I'm with Nicolas....if Panerai launch some new models with 47mm, 1950 case, base model, either ceramic or steel case...I'm sure they will be all GONE in a very very short time.
Cheers
If and only if the FED and the Treasury had failed to react to the crisis this Thursday and let the market fall, likely most broker dealer would have been run and most commercial banks would have been run as well.
I guess no one will have any moods to talk about watch collecting as most wealthy or poor have lost all their saving in the financial systems. Its a total armageddon on the worldwide financial systems.
The crisis is still not going away yet as the recessionary or maybe deflationary forces is now at work, so the forever price hiking practice by the watch makers will now run into resistance and their sales might slow down dramatically.
The investment value could fall dramatically as a result. For wealthy collectors, they might get great discount and no need to wait for their candies, however most people will prefer cash as I speak to lots of friends who are into watch collecting even they can well afford it.
