Glashütte Original

I have been lucky to acquire this beauty but it did not have any papers. Am I right in thinking that it is from the late 1990s? Would someone have its reference number? And any idea as to how many were produced in 18K? This appears to be N° 3, a small run I should guess. Well, any info about this watch would be most welcome, thanks!

. . . for this design, so I'll have to check with Our Man in Glashütte for information as to any differences between the two.  The first reference number is 39-11-07-06-04, and the second is 39-11-07-16-04.  My hunch is there were two production runs with a minor difference significant enough to warrant a separate reference number.  As for year of production, my guess is the same as yours.

I thought it is after 2006 that they use display case back on Navigator.

. . . with a specified case of 38.3 mm, as opposed to the current 44 mm versions.  You're essentially correct in that the current versions were originally produced with solid casebacks, but I think the year G O started offering display backs was 2008.

Thank you very much for the info. I confirm that its size is 38mm which fits better on my wrist than the current 44mm. I have other chunky watches but I must admit that I am growing tired of them (as far as I am concerned the ideal size for a watch is between 38 and 40mm). What I also like is the thinness of this navigator case and the quality of the engraving on the back. It looks as if it was made by hand rather that with a laser (as it feels on the current steel models). I should think that the first navigator with display back ought to be earlier than 2008. I would like to know what differences there are between the two reference numbers. Cordially.

. . . with an answer to your question.  There is a difference between the two reference numbers that wasn't discernable from the photos I had at hand, but is apparent by comparing these two images:

Yours is the one on top, reference #39-11-07-06-04, and is distinguished from the later version by the channel in the bezel.

Art and René for bringing those details to our attention. The bezel is definetely different but so seems to be the crown: it looks flater and perhaps wider on my version. Best wishes, K.
