of the SoCal GTG this last weekend!

Thank you for welcoming my daughter, my wife and I into the "Purist family" so warmly! 

We had a wonderful afternoon meeting new Purists and finally being able to "put a friendly face" to all the posts!

Special Thanks to Dr No for the stuffed tummies and mkvc for your hospitality!

I apologize for the warm case of beer that I brought and sorry that grandma had to pull us away so early!

. . . cooking don't mix, or, as Bullwinkle would say, accidental guacamole on a lens is a bitch!

Food was great and I munched away all night.  Wonderful people and community.

I don't think anyone of us had cameras except Andrew, so hopefully Andrew has some pictures to share later.

I got off the plane only 2 hours ago (this time zone and seasonal shift is a killer), so give me a little while to 'process' the pictures. However, I think I spent more time chatting that snapping.

Still, it was fantastic to meet all who attended after years of communicating on-line. Most felt like old friends. And all were extremely welcoming.

The LA PuristS certainly lived up to their reputation (as did Ping's cup cakes and Art's guacamole!).

Fun seeing everyone. I did manage to take a few shots.

Dr. No brought the avocados and proceeded to make an outstanding guacamole

The guac was darn near hallucinogenic!

Those handmade sausages were incredible

Dr. No wore a fine vintage Omega Constellation

Andrew's very nice vintage Sub fit my wrist perfectly.

I've heard it called many things but never hallucinogenic... Art can I have that recipe?  Sounds like ya'll had a great time, I wish I could have gone also.

. . . for every four perfectly ripened large Haas avocados, add:

1 chopped Roma tomato
1 bunch of diced green onions
2 diced jalapeños, seeded and de-veined
juice of 1/2 lemon
garlic salt
Tony Chachere's cajun seasoning
Morehouse yellow mustard

The avocados must be mashed as little as possible, and the blending should be performed as lightly as possible, too.

It's all about texture . . . too much mashing and blending is ruinous.

As I enjoy a really Mole... Chicken Mole, that is. That rich chocolate sauce (my favorite recipe also uses a little peanut butter) that gets cooked into a chicken dish. Native to Puebla, Mexico.

Look what I saw today at the grocery store!

We'll have to come up with another clever name.

If you don’t like the skin of the Roma tomatoes in your guacamole dip, they are easy to peel.  Just parboil them for a minute or so; enough to blister the skin.  Then simply peel the skin off, dice and add to your avocadoes. 

 

I wish I could have been there, it sounds like ya’ll had a great time.

. . . but you've got to remove most of the seeds and veins from the jalapeños unless you're a glutton for punishment!

PS - I make marinara sauce, too!

Next time bring Grandma along!  PuristS and their families are always welcome!  You have a lovely wife and daughter!  It was so great to put a face to a name, and I look forward to seeing you at future events!

Other than that, thanks to everyone who came and especially to the organizers. It was a great event, and Erika and I very much enjoyed seeing you all (and the watches you brought).

Thank you to everybody who helped organize and bring all of this together. A special thanks to Mkvc and Erika who opened up their home and backyard to all of us, including my kids. Also, thanks Art for all the food you prepared. I don't think I ever saw you outside of the kitchen.

By the way, that was my cooler.
