I’d argue the sneakers are far more of an attractive trophy.
I don’t recall how many changes of shoes MJ may have had in games but even still these shoes were on his feet in video, photos etc in front of hundreds of millions of people in historical games. So the provenance is far far more interesting, and to a wider audience, than the Newman.
Like the Newman this is a consumer product that created an entire market. The Jordan (shoe) is far more influential in the world of sneakers, sports and basketball than the Newman could ever be in the world of horology.
The global relevance of the individuals, to whom the lots are tied, is also like night and day. You can’t compare MJ and Newman, they are not even in the same universe in terms of name recognition, fame, influence on their trade etc.
I have no argument with “1/ some guys really have too much money”, some of the nonsense money paid for very pedestrian (high volume) watches the past several years is proof enough of that.
$2.5m for a Tiffany Nautilus, buy the shoes dude!!!
