Thanks for sharing this --- awful news but glad he appears to be fine! It happened in the beautiful town of Viareggio (world famous for its Carnival), in Northern Toscana, Italy. I have included a link to a news source.

I'm moving it to one of the main sections so it gets picked up on the Front page --- thanks again. FabR (moderator)

PS: News of course also picked up by the "Gazzetta dello Sport" (the main Italian sports newspaper), which includes further details and speaks of a bespoke RM worth over 1M Euros (link below in Italian):

So, which information is actually accurate??

 By: InHavenPro : April 20th, 2022-02:14
The first article or your article, in terms of which RM it was, and the corresponding value? Anyway, what is the thief now going to do with a, supposedly, piece unique RM other than wear it to his/her heart's content.... Public resale is impossible.... Also, was this watch on a regular buckle?? Cheers, Filip

I (obviously) don't know more than what I can read online about this theft....the "Gazzetta" is a very reputable (sports) Italian paper, but I guess an exact estimate isn't easy regardless, given that this RM (reportedly, a ref. 67-02) is bespoke.

It appears from the Gazzetta article that this was notoriously not a good area of the town, where residents had already complained about safety at night. Again according to the newspaper, the pilot initially did not realize he was robbed --- which fortunately seems to imply he's unharmed.

For sure, I agree with you that whoever stole this watch (some "youngster" who mixed up with the fans, it appears) won't be able to easily resell it! ;-)

This totally comes across like a....

 By: InHavenPro : April 20th, 2022-02:57
spur of the moment decision, without any pre-meditation. I bet he/she thought they'd be easily able to sell it right away.... This way, they'll stash it away someplace that's unrelated to them directly, and wait a long time before attempting to peddle it to some criminal 'under the table'........

Another thought that might have factored into their decision is the virtual certainty in their (and my!) mind that they wouldn't be spending a single day in jail in Italy, even in the remote case they'll ever get caught....;-)

Not that other countries are necessarily safer, but I'm pretty sure that the idea of impunity these criminals have definitely doesn't work as a deterrent! smile Glad they won't be able to (easily) resell it....even though I'm afraid the Ferrari pilot has already kissed good-bye to his watch! ;-) Cheers.

PS: Looks like this RM is appreciating faster than a Patek! Here's the news as reported by 'la Repubblica' today, one of the main (mainstream) Italian newspapers, where the watch "is worth 2 million Euros"! ;-)

Hahaha x))

The thief could now offer to send it to a local police station if he/she receives a ransom in Bitcoin LoL.... How much to negotiate for!? 500K EUR wink........

By looking at other sources I think I finally understand how the Italian journalists came up with the 2M figure...it's because *another* 67-02, the "Only Watch 2021" prototype made for him, went for that much at the auction! ;-)

Obviously still a totally arbitrary figure for a unique piece, but probably closer to a hypothetical value than $300k!πŸ‘πŸ˜‰

Alas, a sad but definitely not unreasonable conclusion, when it comes to more and more destinations in the world ;-)

βœ…βœ…βœ…

Yep leave the good ones at home in the safe. So sad , but true

Yep, while I already do that when I travel to certain areas of Italy (and of course elsewhere), this is a "good" reminder more and more places have become unsafe in recent years ;-) When they say, "better be safe than sorry," I guess they're right! ;-))

And that is why you're the smartest pirate cat there is!

Speaking of you being a pirate cat, though...

This is again sad news . Summer is coming and when wearing short sleeves we need to think twice before strapping a nice watch on the wrist unfortunately πŸ˜”

Glad he is unharmed. This is reality nowadays and spoiling the fun from our hobby imho .

He is wearing a red one this weekend.

Noticed that too, here it is on his wrist today....it certainly doesn't look too dissimilar from his previous unique piece, but perhaps the case color is different? Glad that RM might have quickly replaced it for him! ;-)

The one I saw today after the sprint race was a red case.

By: India Whiskey Charlie : April 24th, 2022-00:48

Do you have a picture? All the pictures I can see online from today seem to be of this watch, but regardless, I'm glad RM (as obvious) appears to continue to take care of him! ;-)

 By: FabR : April 24th, 2022-00:54

No, I saw it during the interview. Let me see if I can do a screenshot.

By: India Whiskey Charlie : April 24th, 2022-00:59

My mistake. I went back and saw the same watch in your picture...

By: India Whiskey Charlie : April 24th, 2022-01:04
I am now officially a certified old fart with even older eyes. But, I swear I saw him with a red watch, maybe during yesterday's qualifying?

Not a problem!πŸ˜‚β€οΈFor some reason, this reminds me when my mother got me to see an eye doctor two years ago in Italy (first time since I was a child)…I got in, she quickly looked at me from a distance and said, β€œWow! All good! See you when you’re 46!β€πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰
