Roll call Omega Speedmaster
I fully admit- I have caught the vintage Rolex bug. Its the brand I spend by far the most dreaming about. Fearing about. So much so that I sometime forget the other great brands of vintage watches. JLC is a brand that comes close behind Rolex for me but one brand that is strongly contending for a second place is Omega. Omega is a brand that has a rich history and a nice mix between sports watches and evening watches.
One of the most Iconic watches that Omega made is the Speedmaster. I happen to like the Speedmasters without crown guards so it is natural that I gravitated towards a 2998-1, one of the earliest speedy's ever made. The watch above is from circa 1959. I prefer it than the broad arrow, it is 'cleaner' and more pure. This watch gives me just as much joy as when I wear my small crown subs from Rolex. Lets have a roll call of all Speedmasters out there! New or old - let us see the one of most legendary lines of Omega!

I am not the biggest fan of tropical dial watches but it works on this Omega speedmaster.
I also like the very rare 1000 bezel which is very hard to find today.

Most likely a '69, h - one of the earliest Mk IIs . . .
. . . released, and originally sold in Canada to a person I knew who also owned a 105.003. Acquired in '05, disposed in '07, and now beginning to hanker for another.

Believe it or not I think the Speedmaster with a brown dial looks better than most rolex with brown dials.
I am not why this but I have come to this conclusion. A wonderful example. Thank you for sharing.

I wish to share my last adquisition. Not so pretty as yours, but it got its character and charm. I´ll need to replace the plexi, as it has an ugly scar at "1", though it is the original one, with the Omega logo on its center.
It is a reference 2998-6 circa 1962.
It has an additional attraction on its back!

Looks like this watch has been worn and witness some great adventures. If only watches could tell stories.
But they do through the patina they develop and yours is splendid. I like it very much.
I was thinking, wow this watch has been through quite some battles, or adventures.
Then I scrolled down to your last pictures. PAF. Those initials indeed ring a bell

As a matter of fact it looks that it had a previous hard and adventuresome life.
FAP is the marking for Fuerza aerea del Perú. It was discovered in a small town outside Lima, and last owner thought they were the initials of some previous owner.
It was bought by a friend of mine who knew the real meaning. (Please remember I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but it is not rare to find some watches from the FAP, and I have been offered before (but not bought as being completely out of my reach) a few of them: Submariners and Daytona).
I was fortunate to be offered this one at a price I could afford though not cheap!
