Hi Steve,
This is a R 17.8 SC supposedly from an early run as it still has the nickel finish.
Nickel SC 17.8 movements are not often seen... most are the sub sec versions in rose gold guilt.
kind regards
Erich
Can you tell what caliber it is ?

Yes, it's a 28SC and it's in my collection, Grumio. Here are a few more pics.
Regards.
Hoi
Hi Grumio.
I guess the 28 is less common just because it didn`t fit into category D _ 13 lignes (30mm or less) at the competions _am I right .
I`d also like to ask about ref 2256, because I bought one today without knowing anything about it, the only thing I know is it`s big size, maybe 39mm..
Anybody here involved in that fight
Regards.
Hoi
Hi Hoi,
congrats! I have seen that you was successful!
I have been involved as far as I had put a snipe on it - but much too low...
I would have bought it at a much lower rate for just the movement´s sake as I needed it for parts.
It has a 30 T2 SC Rg in it which was surely not born with this watch case - I think it is a put together piece just using a left over movement.
My guess for the size is 37,5 mm as most of these large cases of this era.
But the movement looks to be in very good condition!
Enjoy it!
Erich
Hi Erich.
The reason I bought it because of the size of the case and a rare ref (?) , the movement is not very important to me (there is another one out there and I won't compete too hard on that ;( )
By comparing to my 2544 and 2545 (39mm cases), it looks like this one is a 39mm case. Let's look at these pics.
Ref 2545.
Anh the one I bought
The movement itself is 30mm then I add up the thickness of the rim around (about 4,5mm or 5mm each side), it must be 39mm. Don't you think ?
Regards.
Hoi
Hi Hoi,
You may be right... it really looks like a 39mm case.
But do you really think that it is an original case / movement combo??
I suspect it is a put together watch... but I stand to be corrected...
regards
Erich
Hi Erich.
The reason I bought it just because of the case, It's a very early case, it looks big and original. I am not sure if it host that Rg from that day or not but I am sure I will have a huge combo on my wrist and happy as a clam.
In the same time, I also bought another huge 283 in a gold case from France, I will post them here when I have them and please give comments.
Regards.
Hoi
Do you buy Rolex, sometime ????
This one just come today.

I am not a typical collector of sports Rolexes as most collectors are...
There are some "Princes" in my humble collection only because I like these iconic art deco designs -
and I like the rectangular cases with the duo dials a lot!
But it seems that they are a bit out of fashion at the time?
kind regards
