I switched to an iPhone 13 last year from an iPhone 8 after reading how much the camera had improved.  For distance shots, maybe, but for macro?

No way.

The picture is from a mid-class Samsung smart phone which has a very capable camera.
Admittedly also with a bit of post processing ....
