Friends,
A few weeks ago, I got back my GP Richeville Day/Night from service.
I got this watch with the help of a Purist about a year ago, but it turned out to have a provlem with the rotating 24hr ring. Very strange problem it was. If I put down the watch at night laying on its side (buckle is a deployant), the ring would stop at some point while the minute hand kept on going and overall the watch keep time accurately. If on the other hand, I put the watch in the box (dial up), the ring would rotate without problem.
Even more interesting, as the ring needs to be synchronized with the minute hand, e.g. at 60min, a hour number needs to be exactly at 12, after the ring has stopped and I reset the watch, somehow it synchronized again and ran again as well.
Whatever, not a big deal, I’m more comfortable having the watch serviced at the manufacture anyhow, so it went in for a full service.
Now I can enjoy the watch without any worries and that I have been doing for a few weeks already. As you probably know, I used to have the pink gold version which I had bought brand-new and I always liked the way time is displayed on this watch. When I decided to let the pink gold go it was already with the plan to acquire the steel version.
The case of the modern Richeville is quite large and fully polished which always had me a bit worried to wear the gold Richeville or even felt comfortable in a casual setting. No such feelings with the steel Day/Night, a watch that can be worn daily regardless the attire.
I also think that the dial colours are more harmonious than on the gold version, but what I kept was the tan coloured strap over the standard black. I think the blue accents come out more with the tan strap.
Another feature, I really like is the Power Reserve indicator. If you look closely, both the power reserve and the small seconds circles are applied on the dial, giving it a very three-dimensional look. And the Power Reserve is a very useful feature as well that on this dial provides the needed asymmetry to make the dial even more interesting.
For me this is one of the most interesting modern GPs that has quite a unique place in horology and the combination of Tonneau case with the round 24 hour ring provides a high recognition.
A true keeper in my collection.
