Vintage GP journey, Summer Edition, Part #3.2 - GP 8846 N

Aug 19, 2014,00:11 AM

I promised you a bonus Part #2 of this GP Olimpico Chronograph post. One day I hope to uncover the whole Olimpico series history. This post will again, only look at the 8846 N.

Here is a link to Part #1:

As I stated earlier, this Silver dialed Olimpico have had a lot of wrist time last few month…

I am head over heels for this one!

And as a “No chrono” guy I am somewhat in chock! But to tell you the truth, what’s even more chocking to me is the watch that has been competing with the silver dial to get wrist time…

Yes, the Deep Diver’s has got a lot attention as well… But another watch that joined my small GP collection a few months back and has been in the regular circulation ever since:

GP 8846 N, black dial

A second chronograph in the regular rotation?! What’s next?! Vlad taking a sun bath…?!

As the reference indicates, it is the same case with round pushers and screw down case back.

Inside is the same movement, GP caliber 07-3, based on the Excelsior Park P40.

You see the same hands and scales on the dial…

Different dial color, instead of sunburst silver, it’s black!

Another detail that differs are the applied indexes, here the markers are painted.

Totally different in appearance! Like Yin and Yang….

Normally I often go for black dials, but here I am torn…

I think, me leaning more against the silver, but not as much that I would not want to have the black…

Honestly, not sure which one I prefer the most…

So the only way out of this dilemma was for me to do as I use to do…

The black dial gives you a great opportunity to play with straps.

Matching back and forth, but in the end I opted for the same brown “Blomman” strap….

Hm, I guess I have to throw in the towel and admit defeated…

YES, I have become a chrono guy!

Hope you all have enjoyed this Vintage GP journey presented this summer!

I know I have.

This autumn we will start to look into the Richeville history. If possible I will also to go deeper into the Deep Diver history. Maybe look closer on some Laureato…

For sure this will be a very interesting and fun autumn!

Stay tuned…

Black dial and white dial both are looking very strong. Matched with light and dark straps you have four watches. Great stuff. Bill
