Chopard

Just got a call from the AD who has a tentative reservation for me for the Titanium Strike One.Serial number is 088 in the limited edition release of just 100 pieces.  It holds some "value" for collectors from the far east but that's a bit too complicated for me to explain

I stil haven;t had time or conviction to get the Dato (although I really would like to) and this now comes as an added distraction from my original "get the Dato first" goal.

So here are the questions for advice from all you gurus.  I'm really new to all this so I reaaly could use some objective advice.

1.  I understand Chopard is as inhouse as inhouse gets.  How is the Strike One movement?

2.  Anyone actually heard the Strike One Titanium yet?  How is compared to the other casings?

3.  Is the Strike One really worth getting as it is, from what I read, Chopard first forey into repeaters?   Or better to just get a more complicated repeater?

I'm no guru even though answering your questions.

For Q1, perhaps you could elaborate what you would like to know. 
It is still derived from the base movement of Cal 1.96.  The StrikeOne movement is named as Cal. 96SH.
It chimes every hour only.

For Q2, the first one version, was made in WG & RG, each limited quantity to 100.  The new one is a Titanium casing. 
The volume of the Ti  is obviously louder, but the pitch is as distinctive as the gold.  It is subjective, you have to hear for yourself.

Q3....this is another crystal-ball question.  Could not say much...but I know it appeals to a group of people who loves to collect from the start ( with basic features) and progress with the manufacturer with more advance and improved versions of repeaters and sonnerie in the future. It is like from Series 0 to Series X.

As you know, I'm really new to this and am still fibbing on the Dato.  Feel bad for the AD cause they have been trying really hard.  No fault of theirs but I guess for me jumping from a GO to a Dato and now this is a really big jump and I'm feeling some guilt.

In any case, what I was wondering is this I am told is an try level repeater?  So just as I have been advised to resist temptation and make the big plunge when ready (ala dato), would it be better to go for a complex (not sure if I am using the right words so please bear with me) repeater at a later date.

This look really good to me though although I have not seen the back and am not sure even if this is a sapphire case back.

Guilt of spending the money or not buying from the AD?

The main question is has your preference changed?

Initially you were looking for some top chronographs.  Now you like 'ding-dong' watch.
If you are referring StrikeOne as an entry level repeater due to the pricing and it only strikes hourly, then the context could be right.

For your next question, its not easy to answer.  I've bought some watches, and sometimes, I asked myself, if I've not bought all these pieces and combined the monies spent and just shoot for 1 solid complicated piece...wouldn't that be great?

I doubt I can do that even if I turned back the clock.  Each piece bought, a new experience and insight gained.  It is like a continuous learning process about the various pieces/types and also about my preference.  My taste changes along  the journey.
I am happy for you if you can do that, somehow like short-cutting, perhaps it is really possible

The guilt is with spending the money. I still am keen on the Dato. But this Strike One strikes me (pardon the pun) as well. I'm just wondering since his is a limited 100 piece, maybe get this first and then the dato but the dato is still so calling to me but then the guilt again....

Unfortunately, my resources being a salaried slave is ver finite...sigh.

About Chopard being "as inhouse as inhouse gets," that only applies to the LUC watches; the other lines like the Mille Miglias are based on the ETA movements. I have a MM GT XL and I'm absolutely impressed with the accuracy ~+1 second a day, so it's not as if it suffers for not having an in house movement.

Back to your question, the Strike One falls under the LUC line, so you'll be safe. You'll get a fantastic Chopard microrotor-based movement.

As for the choice between the Strike One and the Dato . . . well, you're in a win-win situation. No matter what, you'll get a cherishable piece.
