Buying myself a Christmas present and I can't decide between the two. Everyone says get it down to 2 but now what. Do I get the master grande memovox platinum LE w the blue face and solid back or the Duometre QL. I know you will all say go with the one you love but I love them both. I have chewed my fingernails off. Please someone give me sage advice.

BUT...

I love a lot the Master Grande Memovox. Its dial is too busy, for sure, but there is a " surranné " charm I like a lot, in this watch, and the combination of the perpetual calendar with the alarm is not only unique, it is also original.

BUT...

I would go for the Duometre à Q.L...

Its aesthetic is, in my opinion, much more appealing than the MB Memovox, its movement is superb, well made and uses an original concept, the Dual Wing, it has chronometric vrtues, and a very elegant case.

If only they couls release it in white metal...

Since the platinum memovox is older should I maybe snag that up now and the price is right a d wait for a duometre in white metal? Newer watch and maybe easier to locate in future. They both seem to be great watches. Just a thought after reading one of the other comments. The older one is also preowned so what do I lose from a manufacturer standpoint if I take that route? Thank you again in advance.

The Manufacture warranty,

The Grande Memovox was released in 2001, so you can understand that, unless you find one NOS from a JLC AD or a JLC Boutique, the watch is not covered by a warranty, anymore.

But you can still send it for a service, which, by the way, should be a good idea, if not serviced since its release...

Well, the new Duometre à QL will be introduced, I think, in less than 6 weeks, now.

It may be limited or not, if you keep in mind that the WG Duometre à Chronographe came in a LE ( of 200 pieces ), but this may be also due to the fact that the pmlatinum Duometre à Chronograph was alredady released.

Which is not the case for the moment with the Duometre à Q.L.

So to sum it, and to make it clear, you should wait to see if the Duometre à Q.L will be soon released ( what I guess ) in white metal.

Then, you can also think about the Master Grande Memovox, if the wait is too long.

Have you tried nail polish hardener ?
Perhaps this helps - Imagine yourself buying one (i.e. handing over the cash and walking out of the AD) and then examine your emotions. Try that with both.
Platinum would do it for me!

take the perpetual now and look at the Duometer when/if it comes in white metal.

Let's face a fact: buing one of these nice watches, the big majority gets hooked and other watches will follow. I have seen this perpetual once in platin and it is really a "cool" watch with an unique combination. I would bet on Duometer coming later either in steel, WG or platinum. A duo with two beutiful JLCs in Pt. would be fantastic.

I used to like the YG and tolerate RG but still, a watch with "sporting complication" feels better for me.

My guess is that ( only a guess, eeeh? ) that we'll see a white metal Duometre à Q.L next year.

And my other guess is that it will be WG.

Let's see if I'm good at pronostics...

I'd bet the same and if they make a boutique edition, it might be in platinum and even more limited.

That's common sense, though they didn't apply it on the duo chrono

There was ( is ) a limited production which came ( comes ) with the white grained dial, while the " current " Chrono comes with a silver grey grained dial.

Ok, we are playing on words, as, even if it is not clearly specified, even the current Duometres are limited in production...

To hear that only a few hundred were made between their release in 2007 till October 2009.

That was I've been told by the Master Watchmaker at the JLC Manufacture, when I was there.

As for the Chronographs, I'd say somewhere between 100 and 200 per year, all metals included.

As for the Q.L, I will have to ask...

Btw, my prediction for this year, would be a tourbillon duometre. Placed instead of the moonphase Now that would be very cool. No need for the seconds hand anymore. And especially that we are in the middle of a trend of tourbillons, IMO, JLC doesn't have a nice tourbillon. We are stuck between the gyro and the master control. Anyway, just speculating.... or dreaming

Will try to find the good moment to post a topic I dedicated on the Duometre à Q.L, by the way.

To sum it in a veryfew words, an original chronometric piece.

As for the next Duometre to come, only God and JLC know what it is.



I would love to see a kind of high end Alarm, from the Manufacture. But an exquisite Tourbillon would fill a gap you correctly mentionned.

A very nice manual tourbillon, now that would be very appealing!

Movements, tech, all the rest is no surprise somehow. Its their strong point.

I have learned that you have many crystal balls from where you can see to the future. And your JLC ball is bright and well polished.

I am very happy if JLC will not come with with a platinum Duometre. This means that I'm saving € 40-50 k cash. I hope you are right.

More seriously, what I noticed these 2 or 3 last years is that platinum is less and less the JLC choice, in favor of the WG.

Maybe because Times are not propice to ask for a platinum premium?

but at leat for me platinum is the #1 material for the finest of watches. Thus, in my opinion it is a great pitty that there is not even one platinum Reverso in regular production. For me this means that if I want to get a really fine watch (but sometimes a simple one), Reverso is not an option.

for my limited budjet. And the watches you mentioned belong to that group. Furthermore, I am still so unsophisticated that tourbillion is a bit too much for me.

But you are hinting again and it looks like I should not spend all on (your) Christmas presents. Luckilly nearly everything is bought: two of my kids get an iPad, the smallest one Sony Vaio, GF some diamonds around WG plus a rather simple Reverso. But don't tell her when we'll see in two weeks.

...but the Memovox model you reference is too busy of a dial for me.  Lots of information to process, and nothing that inspiring or novel about the layout.  I do LOVE the dial color though!  The Duometre QL is much more unique and I personally think the Duometre will become a signature line in the modern JLC collection.  I actually prefer the original Duometre chronograph to the QL, but both are beautiful watches.

I'd go for the Platinum Memovox for a couple of reasons:

(1) 250 pieces made

(2) only JLC makes a perpetual calendar w/alarm

(3) it is, simply, a more practical watch.

Now, I'm NOT saying I don't love the Duometer QL, I DO! But I see the MGM as a GREAT daily watch to wake-up to, to be reminded by, to check the moonphase, to... well, a lot. I LOVE the navy strap with blue dial, too.

So, I'd go for this NOW, and look to the DuoQL later as purely a dress watch.

Just my 2 cents.

Never like watches with holes in the dial, whatever the reason is. Too distracting to look at. My stainless steel JLC perpetual wears so light on my wrist for almost 7 months now, gaining only 4 seconds so far as I religiously put it face down when I sleep everynight. The 1000 hours control quality is simply unbelievable. Period. Wonder if the Duometer will ever beat it. Larry
