and too "amateurish."
Far be it for us to insist on being "helpful."
Cheers,
TM

The following quote is clearly wrong (at best) and Obfuscation, if I was less generous: "Suddenly, The PuristsPro decided to charge the brands for a significant amount of money otherwise they would close the forum." - FPJ HQ.
NO....NO....NO.
We get a lot of complaints about FPJ watches construction, failing, manufacture faults, after-sales inefficacy etc. Not as many as one other brand but still enough to "defend".
I wrote the original e-mail reaching out to FPJ because of our concerns about the 3 criteria for all brand fora on PuristSPro:-
"A closer collaboration between PuristSPro and Montres Journe will help you defend the internet space and make it the best tool for instant market communication. Brad needs more information and access to new developments.
Obviously, to continue the forum, and for Montres Journe to continue to develop and expand your brand reach we would need three things. We already have the enthusiastic volunteer moderator in Brad Schwartz. We need two further commitments from Montres Journe in the form of:
1) regular information and material or access to technical and historical answers.
2) financial sponsorship but maintaining our editorial independence, as that is our unique PuristS credibility.
[Confidential business details edited] As a 'legacy brand' and a long time supporter, we are ready to discuss these terms with you and prepare a plan with clear goals and levels of user reach."
NO mention of forum closure; just asking for a discussion of options. No reply.
Subsequent follow-up e-mails added lesser options like banner adverts and pleas for at least, acknowledgement of receipt of the mail.
No reply.... thrice.
Brad wrote a personal e-mail asking whether mesages were received. Finally - a reply told us "where to go" as FPJ had "no reason to intervene".
Enough said!

Does the existence of a brand forum require a company's sanction? Or by "support" do we mean "sponsorship"? I suppose the question is, can we not "go it alone"?
1) Products that are of horlogical merit or attractive to PuristS, in order to get a worthy and passionate moderator.
2) Manufacturer, Watchmaker or Executive that are 'PuristS' in their heart; in the way they say AND do things to promote haute horlogerie and supply information.
3) "Sponsorship" that is not tied to editorial control or censorship.........
It is not a straight arithmetic equation (1+1+1 = 3) of course, that all three items are not weighted equally.
Some "watches"...... we can talk about generally on HoMe page (snigger) but we could not have a dedicated brand forum......er.....even for $$$ Millions!
That would not be PuristS.

MTF
Just to be clear so you don't have to wonder.
PuristSPro Management closed the forum after almost a year of assessment and monitoring of the brand's ability to fulfil the three criteria.
Of course, like a guillotine, the final decision only takes a second.

...while I haven't visited the FP Journe forum often enough, having just attracted to his creations and made my very first posts there last week, it is really disappointing to learn about the news.
I scanned through many posts within the last few days, and intend to continue, but alas the closure and unavailability of those previous posts now limit my understanding of the brand.
I don't understand the decision, it is place like this that allow me to learn more about his work. Many of his collections are not readily available at the ADs anyway and I 'see' them here first, like the Centigraphe, Chronometre Blue...
Sigh, a sad day indeed.
Thanks Brad for the immense work and congrats on your black label CS, it fits you well.

If this is really what he said, in what context he said so?
I thought the relationship between the brand and the forum is always cordial and built on mutual respect foundation. I could be wrong then.

The explanation is cryptic and coded. It is conclusory. Thomas, et al, if you felt the necessity of offering an explanation for the rupture of relations with F.P. Journe, I think you are then duty bound to give the relevant factual background instead of a subjective conclusion. It is fondamentaly unfair to publicly attach motive to words or individuals without supplying those words, all of them and their context, so that we can either agree or disagree without depending exclusively of your personal interpretation. I for one, (I think I am not alone) felt that I was being short changed with the story's conclusion w/o the benefit of the underlying facts. For instance, you say that M. Journe describes your (The Purists) work as "too amateurish" and not worthy of his support. Since it is highly unlikely that whatever M. Journe said it was spoken in english, this quote is not a quote at all, but a translated interpretation. I do not know how strong your french is, but note as Douglas so ably points out, "amateur" in french is a very different noun/adjective than in english. In one context, it means "purist" . To give an example using my own personal life experience. I was an amateur (french) athlete that competed internationally. I would have felt insulted if described as a "professional", especially in french. Being an amateur meant I was training and competing for the purists of reasons, trying to win for my club/university or country, attempting to surpass myself. In a word, it meant love of the sport for the right reasons (as opposed to running simply for the $). As a noun, it also means a connaisseur of say art or wine, of all things refined. In french, it can be the opposite of your normal english understanding of the word. As to what you mean by "support" I can again, only speculate.
This is all so regrettable and I hope this situation will be reversed. However, and I say this respectfully, I cannot accept as justified the appropriatness of this action based soley on the flimsy factual record laid out above. If you start to answer the question of why, you really have to do a better job of laying out the facts.
a.k.a. 'bs22fly' for his sterling contribution as the most recent moderator on the defunct PuristSPro FP Journe Forum.

Brad will retain his moderator-at-large status until he finds a brand forum that he is comfortable with.
We would also like to thank previous moderators like Felipe J and the PuristS' community for their discussions on ThePuristS and PuristSPro websites even before the FP Journe brand became well known. I remember a time when Tokyo bar hostesses would twitter admiringly about Rolex and Patek Philippe watches on their clients' wrist but ignore the unknown FP Journe.
An industry executive commented that he would know that FPJ watches had "made it" when the Ginza bar hostesses recognised one AND a fake turned up on Canal Street in NYC.
He's still waiting!

Dear Brad,
Thanks for all your steady hard work on the Journe Forum. I can honestly say that I have read every thread ever posted there and looked forward to the day when I could add my own Journe timepiece to the family. That day will still come, but it will be with a touch of sadness.
So much history and information is now lost from the internet. This community may well represent a minority of customers for Journe, but the Internet will only become more and more important for commerce and future historians. Five years of early Journe history has just been excised. If the HW Forum can re-open, perhaps I can hold on to a glimmer of hope for the future.
Congratulations on the 38mm Black Label CS. It looks great on your wrist.
Thanks again for everything.
Andrew
