Horological Meandering

Hi! i'm looking to buy for myself a nice and classy dress watch with a RG or YG case, white/silver dial, and leather strap (crocodile). I like the Patek Calatrava, but its a bit out of my price range at the moment. Thus, I'm left to look for something more affordable. I'm looking for something, simple, elegant, and hopefully thin. Yet, I want something in either automatic or hand-wound movement. My choices right now are: 1. JLC Master Grande Ultra Slim, or 2. Chopard L.U.C Classic. The JLC is probably around USD10k while the the Chopard is slightly cheaper at 6.5k USD. I don't think I want to spend more than ten grand on a watch right now. What do you all think? any other suggestions?

The JLC is a bit more classic, quite large (40mm), a bit too large for my taste and has an automatic mouvement.

1. Vacheron Constantin - Patrimony Contemporaine (automatic 2450 movement)

2. Girard Perregaux - 1966 (ref. 49525)

3. Piaget - Altiplano, large model (430P calibre, 2.1 mm thick movement)

They are all gorgeous pieces and comparable in price range to the two you picked. Obviously, you will have to decide which one sings to you...

Hi.. Check H Moser& Cie . They have a beautiful watch, ' Mayu '. The movement is well decorated and the price is absolutely affordable.

the JLC for me...

not sure how much the VC mentioned is going for but that would be my choice if its in your budget range... no to the GP, Moser, piaget, chopard for me...

lastly, if the patek is the one you want, i'd recommend saving a bit more to get the calatrava, which is just a bit above what you're willing to pay right now anyways.

I think in that price range, you can't do better than either of the Ultrathin models by JLC.

budget seems to be a concern, so you'll save couple thousands of dollars.  With this savings, you can then splurge a little more when you're ready to get your next watch.  The Chopard L.U.C line is undiscovered IMO and you probably won't see anyone else with this watch.  Understated, elegant, and undiscovered with a beautifully finished movement.

They are beautiful dress watches.  Piaget seems to be an often underappreciated brand but they really make great watches!

the omega Centenary museum piece. its a limited edition, but you might find a new one. a pre owned one will be well below your budget.

lovely rose gold with copper dial, co-axial chronometer. 36.2mm. i used to have one, but ended up never wearing it and a lucky Dutchman now owns it.

alternatively any of the Omega Deville range are really good value and high quality. the new 8500 movement is superb.

Seems consistent in terms of simplicity of look.

hey guys, what do u think of cartier as a dress watch alternative?  I'm thinking of the Solo ronde, Solo Louis Cartier, or even the Ballon Bleu (gold w/ leather strap)
