Horological Meandering

Dear Members

I would like some advice on some watch choices.I own the following watches:

1. Patek Phillipe 5107g calatrava

2. Blancpain Flyback le mans 38mm stainless steel.

3.Raymond Weil Parsifal stainless steel Automatic Watch ETA 2892 I think.

4.Seiko Divers watch 40mm Stainless Steel  Auto

I would like  to add to this collection. My thoughts are on the following watches.

1.Zenith chronomaster open 45mm with El Primero Movement (1st choice)  steel
2.Jaeger Master Date 40mm steel
3.AP Royal offshore oak steel 40mm

Out of these choices which one would you go for  or better still can you all give me any other suggestions.I would also like to ask you guys whether my watch collection will be sufficient after this purchase have I covered all bases.I hope to hear your opinions on this. I Dont want to own a lot of watches so the choice I make must cover  most categories.I am not interested in Perpetuals.

Without knowing things like:  budget (unless not a concern), what do you intend to do with the next watch, what are your collecting goals.... etc.  I think you have some interesting watches already.  I subscribe to the thought that a collection is never quite complete or having all bases covered, because there will always be something new, or perhaps tastes/collecting goals change with time.

With that in mind, I would encourage you to buy what pleases you, without a concern about covering "the bases".  Of the choices you gave, which one are you most interested in?  If you have some thoughts on the pro/con of the 3, it will help others chime in with an opinion.  At face value, any of the 3 would be a fine timepiece in it's own right.

Sorry I was not clear.I guess I like the Zenith  chronomaster but a lot of people have bagged Zenith and indicated that it is not in the same league as the other brands.That being the case I am leaning towards the other 2 options from a quality point of view however I do not really know the pro and cons of each option at this point so I was hoping that someone would be able to steer me in the right direction as far as choice is concerned.This is so very confusing for the new folk like myself..I really have no idea which of these watches to pick based on technical aspects and  build quality.

Zenith might not be in the same class as AP, but the historical significance of the El Primero movement would be my reason to aquire a Zenith. If you are more into design rather than movements, ROO certainly is an important watch. JLC? Well, they are always nice, JLC in itself has a great history.

History aside; choose the watch that speaks to you.

I would go for the Jaeger. Superb finish, super movement, good value for money.

The primero movement is excellent but personally, I don't find the current Zenith design very thrilling.

You don't have an upscale sport watch. The Seiko is good for banging around. The Zenith is too much like your other dressier watches.

Maybe look at the AP 15300, a sporty dress watch w/ a fantastic inhouse 3120 movement w/ Black dial (My personal preference), or another color.

Depending on how large your wrist is, if you decide to stay around 40mm in dia, JLC is always a good choice.

I prefer dark/black dial watches, so for a dressy consideration:

Chopard Extra Plate:  In House movement w/ Geneva seals

Other watches that are in double categories:

F.P. Journe CS Black Seal, or the New Octa 6 Black Seal w/ Small seconds, five day power reserve indicator, and large date is also one of my favorites.

Moser Large date w/ black dial is another consideration, another of my favorites.

The Patek 5107G is an awesome watch, but I really like it's counter part in the Richard Lange.  Beautiful watch, chronometer, larger balance wheel, and all who have given their owners impression, that I have read, say, its regulations is spot on, +/- :01 a day or less.  I believe, however, it is substantially more costly than the 5107G.

Try each one of your choices, and try on a few others, see how it looks on your wrist, close your eyes and see how comfortable it is, then your choice will be easy...........maybe!  :)
