Horological Meandering

Hi All Back to the start - wearing my Oris Big Crown again today. Rather tellingly this was the big size at 36mm when I bought it - there was a 34mm, which was still a men's watch.



I keep going back to this, despite the years & all the other watches. More than holds it's own. Still a great watch Cheers JML

This phrase is just for fun.

I bought today this old watch.
Why?
It was calling, LiftAngle51, buy me buy me!





It is a little 37mm watch, and sizes were 75 years ago a different thing.
I guess wrist sizes do not change much, so it is remarkable why watches grow or slink.
Men and women, unisex, it is confusing.

It’s a lovely watch and the size is spot on. Over the years the watch sizes were growing cancerously while our wrists remained more or less the same. For a while it kind of worked getting people to buy more watches but I guess this is slowly over. Let’s hope that more variety will come back again. 

Does feel like there's a reversion to smaller sizes for the last few years.

Plus size watches are great if you've got the wrist of Arnie or Stallone , most of us don't though!

I wish the current set of Big Crown would revert to 36. I tried a 40mm red dialed one on , while I loved the colour it felt like I'd got a dinner plate strapped to my wrist!

Not all designs scale linearly. And a watch design that’s great at 36mm might feel drastically too large at 40mm 😊🤷🏻‍♂️
