Watches and Wonders 2022: Angelus Chronodate.

 By: amanico : April 18th, 2022-10:40
From 1942 to 2022... A celebration of the famous Angelus Chronodato which became, for its 80th birthday, the Chronodate.

There is much more than the final letter which changes, here. Angelus totally revisited its icon, to make it much more modern. But the concept is the same: A peripheral date, and a chronograph. Without the windows for the day and the month, though...

The original:

And now, the new one, which comes in three limited editions, two in titanium ( one with an opaline dial, the other with a blue dial ) and one in rose gold., with a blue dial, only.

The case is very technical and modern with its 42, 5 mm diameter, blending curved and angular shapes, titanium or rose gold with carbon composite for the pushers and the side case, and a rubber ring for the big crown. It is water resistant to 30 meters.

The dial is nicely textured ( frosted ) with luminous applied indices and hands, a superluminova with a blue hue.

As for the movement, it is a new movement, apparently, the Cal A500, with a column wheel and a nicely shaped rotor bearing the " A " emblem of the brand.

As you can see, we are far from the timeless classic look of the original, it is a total rejuvenation of the icon, here. which I quite like. I still wonder why Angelus opted for a limited edition on these three versions, though.

What do you think?

Best,

Nicolas

I love it especially the silver one..

Gives very cool vibes although would prefer it on a titanium bracelet.

I think a good old distressed calf strap would do the job, as well.

contradictive but quite nice. certainly not aligator etc

Yes, definitely, my friend.

yes

I really love the watch design but again i struggle the notion of doing a very small series limited edition. With demand for luxury watch on the rise why would brands not take advantage of this?

The other notable (amongst  many) is Chopard.  I actually think this is hurting the brands as customer will simply not bother with them (well at least for me).  This is the time to create a sustainable demand for their product with great release that are at least remotely possible to source at one point.  I missed opportunity from the perpective of an outsider

+1

Yes, in total agreement with you. Absurd.

Sad…maybe it will change!

I do hope so.

Definitely caught my eyes a few weeks ago.

I like the silver dial.  But, for the asking price, I would rather spend elsewhere.

Thanks for the report Nicolas.

I don't have any idea of the asking price.

CHF 22,900 (titanium) and CHF 42,900 (red gold)

Ouch!!!

I like the blue one — but find the labeling on the pushers a non-starter (no pun intended).

 By: orahu : April 18th, 2022-13:57

Indeed, and it is needless since all the pushers work the same way.

Personally I love everything. They are awesome except the writing start and reset ( it is too much and cheapo)

 By: Gelato Monster : April 18th, 2022-15:18

Understood, my friend. Thanks for sharing your opinion on this one.

I really like this, optimum size (for me), I like the general layout and visibility - and a date. But a tad expensive I think for what it is?

Exactly my feelings, here, I.

Would be an improvement if the...

...date arrow did not cover the date to which it is pointing...

Maybe this design was decided to avoid any confusion between the second hand and the date pointer?

The big, red arrow that isn't moving...

...is the differentiator : ) It's a bad idea to cover up something that you're trying to highlight...

Yes, I got your idea but it is skeletonized, at least.

The arrow in the second photo is the proper length...

...watches are tiny things and the dials have small surfaces. Details matter, and most manufacturers these days don't seem to take the time to make sure all of the elements are correct. Maybe it's negligence. Maybe cost. I don't know, but it's always disappointing.

Okay, I'm new AND dense...

so forgive me. But I can't see a month indicator?  It is a perpetual, right?  Or just a perpetual date?

Just a date.
