Full disclosure, please. Are you compensated in any way, shape, or form . . .

 By: Dr No : August 29th, 2019-12:15
. . . by Benjamin Chee?

Not saying that condition would amount to an impropriety on your part, but covert promotion is contrary to the spirit, if not the letter, of this site.

An explanation would be helpful.

Full disclosure

 By: Simon_Ford : August 29th, 2019-12:56
Hi Art,

I'm not compensated in any shape or form, I got asked the same question when I brought my MaisonCeladon Yue Fei, because my other post was oh I like this other post,
I originally brought the Yue Fei then a picture of another watch came up whilst I was awaiting delivery, when it arrived I made an unboxing video and posted it on here and got called a shill, when there isn't much info in Europe about the MaisonCeladon brand apart from a couple of website reviews, then believe it or not I was So impressed with my original watch, that I brought myself the AtelierMillesime Merveilleux, and again have done another unboxing and posting videos, now I don't know what the other members have about me posting a pic of two watches from the same owner is, I'm sure I've seen people post Orient,Seiko, omega, tags, but it's not uncommon to actually be impressed with a brand and own more than one of their watches, (again Seiko peeps)

Hopefully that clarifies the situation, and yes I do post in more than one group, (I've shown it on all the FB groups etc) but I don't go to forums much, but the reasoning is, if anyone want to see two watches that doesn't have many reviews a forum is the best place for it,
I also own a titanium citizen, a victorinox original, a Bravus aquanaut, a 90s edox dress watch, and a festina 8870 which I purchased brand new from gatwards in Hitchin Hertfordshire, but it needs a new battery, and the others in comparison are boring,
Hope it clears it up a bit

Thank you much, Simon, for clearing the air . . .

. . . and hope you'll continue sharing your passion here.

Very welcome Art

Very welcome Art, I will do thank you, although I have no plans at the moment to buy anymore watches for a while, as my wife found out how much I spent, πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Why are people picking on this guy?

 By: TheMadDruid : August 29th, 2019-19:09
And what's bad about Benjamin Chee? He makes watches, which we celebrate here. Nobody was up in arms when Ming got all kinds of promotion on this Forum. And nobody gets upset with Henrik for championing Hentschel. (And I'm not saying anybody should!)

Fair question, which deserves . . .

 By: Dr No : August 30th, 2019-05:48
. . . an answer.  The primary reason for requesting disclosure is to verify content is noncommercial in nature.  A fundamental principle of this site is that the forums should be free of promotion, overt or covert.  Friends would not engage in conversation with ulterior motives.  And one the roles of a moderator is to ensure probity prevails.

I asked because it seemed odd a new member would be creating threads about an obscure manufacturer, replete with multiple images.  One instance could be put down to honest curiosity.  The second raised my curiosity.  And, apparently, the curiosity of an established community member.  That's why I posed the question to our original poster: potential for the perception, mistaken or otherwise, of a thread created with intent to promote a commercial interest could be taken as contrary to the ethos of this site.   Glad to say our OP passed the challenge with flying colors.

As for your suggestion concerning prior instances where established members of the community were involved with commercial projects being hypocritical: you have a point.  And well taken.

Devil's counter: do you remember what Jefferson had to say about consistency?

All I can say about your first example is that I was the last person in the world to know. As for the second, I'm learning just now from you.

I understand

 By: Simon_Ford : August 30th, 2019-06:11
I understand, but to be called a shill on my first posting, I didn't know what that even was, I asked and was met with more scepticism, as for saying an established member spotted it, thats all well and good, but surely I can't be held responsible for the bee in their bonnet who clearly resents a brand owner, I'm glad I passed your challenge with flying colours, which is a strange way of saying, the other member was clearly wrong and he apologises for it whole heartedly ,
And I did explain why I put my thoughts on here, regarding the watch unboxing, and multiple pic's, even though as a new member I shouldn't have to explain (someone asked for pics) why I put a pic up, when other members put a mainstream model up they don't get questioned, but again I can see your point, of non commercial advertising, it's a case of damn if you do damn if you don't , I would love to keep posting but like I said my other watches genuinely are full and mundane

Most likely you were not aware of the nature and history of this community . . .

 By: Dr No : August 30th, 2019-07:09
. . . when you first posted, Simon.  I haven't reviewed your initial thread in its entirety, but please take it from me that any person posting for the first time that focuses on an unknown manufacturer will raise eyebrows.  It's happened in the past, and in some instances, it was later learned the person posting was affiliated.

Our forums are essentially a virtual cocktail party, and we expect our members to act as though they were at a real one.  Enthusiasm is welcomed, especially for newer members.  Had you posted about a Lange or Seiko, there would've been no issue.  Had you been an established member of the community, no one would've questioned your motives.  It was the coincidence of your being a first-time poster and posting about an unknown that raised suspicions.  (Now cleared, I should add.)

I find your enthusiasm for obscure brands refreshing, and hope you stay on as a member of our community.

No worries

Hi Art,

I totally understand and no hard feelings at all, I'll be honest I do love the obscure brands over more mainstream, having owned Dunhill millennium GMT, a Davidoff Very zino adventurer, Grovana retro second, to name a few, I'm looking forward to exploring the site more, and the people within it,
But again thank you for clearing it up, and thank you for being a vigilant Mod, with even harder dilemmas, no hard feelings to anyone and looking forward to watchprosite πŸ‘πŸ‘

That’s why I’m here.πŸ˜‰

 By: TheMadDruid : August 30th, 2019-12:46
What I’d say is if I heard of Benjamin Chee then he’s not an obscure producer. That doesn’t mean everyone has heard of him or his brands. And I do understand that Ming and Hentschel were boosted by long-time members. But this guy Ford has been attacked quite unfairly, as far as I can tell. Even if he’s bffs with Chee: so what? We have room for him and most everyone else here.
...except maybe people who don’t like rock β€˜n’ roll. &$@# them.

Remember . . .
