As you mentioned, the choice in your area might be Peking Duck, the Olde English choice was Christmas Goose if I remember correctly...
When I grew up it was lefse (soft Norwegian flatbread) and Swedish meatballs... and here the New Year fare is osechi-ryōri (お節料理) a traditional box meal or for the families with kids it might be Kentucky Chicken

Kurobuta (黒豚) the local name for pork from Berkshire hogs is considered by some to be the equivalent of Kobe Beef...
I very rarely eat beef or pork and とんかつ (deep fried port cutlet) is definitely off diet
But sooo tasty...
