Unique and rare Zenith
I just acquired this, and have only seen one other of this reference (03.0520.400). I really dig the dial - busy, but also very striking. It looks black, but actually (hard to capture) is kind of a dark chocolate brown. And of course the el Primero - running flawlessly. It's big (43mm) and high-grade in every respect. Enjoy.....
I've seen one like this, too. Without this bloody date, it would be perfect. Sublime, though.

In this instance it really doesn't bother me much. The dial is complex, the date ring is black, and thus it doesn't stand out as much as others might. But I do hear you.

Beautiful watch, the dial might look a little busy but the overall beauty of the watch out weighs that.

43mm you say? That's a proper man-sized watch for something that is so delicate in aspect.
I don't mind the date window at all so long as the date disk is tone-on-tone as you (and others?) have remarked. It is however the absolute ruin of watches where there is a high contrast between the two.
I have a 38mm cousin dating from 1997, just back from servicing. I posted about this some time last year just after I joined this forum. I call it the 'São Gabriel' for reasons of its origin. The Portuguese jeweller/designer J. Borges Freitas has the first of 750 in their keep.

Interesting. These are very similar, but mine has a larger case and the overall style of the dial and hands, is quite different. But both just great. Yours is very elegant, whereas mine is a bit sportier. Same attention to detail though, and the movement still remains one of my favorites - I have a few el Primeros. Enjoy!
