Patek Philippe

What does everyone think of the 5036?  I'm looking for a watch to wear daily and not have to take off for showering or going to bed.  Anyone comment on the readability at night?

been used to a Rolex sub or the like, I think you would find the 5036's lume to be weak. 

Going to bed would not be a problem unless you're a wild man but showering daily would require you to make sure the gaskets are changed on a regular basis.  Personally, I wouldn't shower with it because I'm afraid I wouldn't be diligent with the gasket replacement.

All in all, a great watch and feels great on the wrist.  I think you would love it.

I'm comparing it to a Rolex Daytona that I wear daily.  I have a Calatrava that I don't wear as it's a leather band and it always feels quite delicate to me.  Besides the Nautilus and Aquanaut, is it realistic to wear the other Pateks as daily watches?

I'm ready to go for a complicated watch.  Ideally, I'd actually like a perpetual, but figure that the Patek perpetuals are too sensitive and expensive to be worn daily.  The annual calendar and bracelet of the 5036 seem more reasonable.  5146 I'm sure is nice, but prices are so much higher for the slightly larger size with same function.

Should I save for a future perpetual or 5146, or is the 5036 a good investment as well as a watch that I can wear everyday?

 

calendar daily as long as you're not chopping trees down or doing wild and crazy things...  shooting guns and riding motorcycles come to mind.

I have a w/g Daytona which I wear harder than I do my PP.  I suspect I feel more assured of the robustness of the Daytona and that it withstand more aggressive wear than the Patek..

It's just not built to withstand a beating. I think with Patek, you need to exercise more care because the maintenance costs are higher and if you screw up the movement... well that's just a situation you would rather not face.

The investment question?  I would forget about that part and get the watch you really want to own for the rest of your life and enjoy wearing.

I don't know that I've said anything you wanted to hear but that's my take on it. 

i dont think the perpetual is any more delicate than the annual calendar. if you are doing such a strenuous and intense activity that a perpetual calendar's movement is damaged, I would be confident that the annual calendar's movement would be damaged too. i would get the perpetual calendar (since that is what you appear to want) and be cognizant of the situations in which you wear the watch. these watches are very well made but are still relatively fragile, regardless if the watch has 2 hands or 10 hands.

makes for a great daily wearing watch, I think it fits all of your needs except the showering. All though I'm sure it will stand up to the water, I think the soap is the bad part.

As for investing , you have to go much further up the food chain or get extremely luck and buy a piece that was not well received and catches fire much later. In this case I think a 5036 makes a great patek to wear but they were produced in far to many numbers to worry about appreciation
