i have the option to purchase a 5722 at what appears to be a very favourable price. However there is always in the back of my mind some self doubt as to whether the watch will stack up long term as a reasonable investment given the size of the outlay and wondered if anyone out there has any views on this particular piece. I appreciate its not all about the investment but if the sky fell in one day it would be nice to know i wouldn't take a bath on it either.

but when spending this kind of money I think it has to be taken into account. I think if the sky was falling tomorrow it would be a hard sell in one day. Its a very expensive piece to begin with and not everyone will like the diamonds, but if you love it, go for it.

what you say resonates with me totally. The fact that im having doubts suggests its not maybe the right piece for me.

That's the general rule of thumb for me. That said, I have not come across a bejeweled watch holding value - if there is such a thing - like its non-bling counterpart. Which also means that if you are looking to pick one up on the used, or gray, market, you should be looking at a substantial savings that could well make the deal irresistible! I've seen the set with the matching cufflinks and money-clip and I can imagine how it can set any heart a-flutter heh.

...I'd consider getting the 5712G or R instead. And take the balance of what it would have otherwise cost to get the 5722 and get or put it toward a second piece. That is, if I were you though.

into considering this piece instead of other models, can you give us some of these points ? 

Some people think it's anomalous to use anything other than steel for the case of a sport watch.  I'm not sure whether I agree with that or not.  But diamonds do not go with sport watches, IMHO.  For that matter, the only jewels I like on any of my watches, dress or sport, are the ones in the movement.  I suspect many people here feel the same way.

I tend to agree that precious stones and mens watches make strange bedfellows but hey, different strokes for different folks. But I'm not sure if I'd agree that the 5712 is a sports watch; though I wouldn't necessarily call it a dress watch either. IMHO, the 1A is sportier with the bracelet and the G/R is dressier with the croc strap. It's either, it's neither, it's both -- an androgyny that is as comfortable with a suit or denims.
