My baby is back from an eight month trip to Switzerland
And looking better than ever. My first service since I bought this 3941J a few years ago. After the team at Henri Stern in NY felt it was needed I swallowed hard, trusted them, and bore the separation. Now I’m glad I did; thanks PP for all the kind attention!

What is the difference between 3940 vs 3941 ?
Really very little difference.
When the 3940 was introduced in 1986, some customers wanted to have a display case. At that time, Patek did not offer a choice with a 3940, so they came up with a new reference number, 3941, to apply to all and only those 3940‘s which had a display back. This move proved popular and four years later, the 3940 was offered with both a solid and display case, and so the 3941 reference number was retired. I read there are only about 35 or so 3941‘s that were made. It’s a rarity — I think some collectors are thrilled by the difference, whereas others don’t care about it.

Do you know why this one doesn't have the same subdial on the right side (I prefer yours)? So only a couple dozen were made and they also have different dials?

Changes to the sundials occurred as the series evolved
The inclusion of the quadrant lines, as well as rotating the leap year numbers, were modifications made to the 3940 (and the 3941), after the first series. This didn’t last long with the 3941, because during the second series it was discontinued.
This is one of the prettiest watches ever

Of course my 3940 is not a tool watch but so versatile and comfortable that it goes well in every situation like a pair of jeans with sneakers and a white shirt and not only as dress watch.
But I also took that one that is a perfect holiday watch also…

I had a chance to acquire one, but did not act quickly enough. Very happy with what I have. They’re all so beautiful, specially by the lake.
