Should I buy a Nautilus?
I know this almost sounds like a ridiculous question, but I am very interested to hear from the WatchProSite community. I am an avid watch collector and have a variety of watches from Patek, Rolex, Cartier and other manufacturers. I have never owned a watch in the Nautilus Collection. I received a phone call from my local AD with availability of a new 5711/1A that multiple customers passed on due to economic reasons related to COVID. I know that this is a highly sought after watch and have read many of the posts on the forum about the watch. Is there anything I should consider here or is this a no brainer? I am scheduled to try on the watch tomorrow. Any and all input is welcome.
If this is your arm, it.already looks great. I would definitelly buy the watch. Its a classic and easy to wear with anything. You wont regret. Independt from the hype: its a great and sleak watch!

This is a no-brainer. I’m sure you will love it. Versatile, classy, sporty, elegant etc. If you don’t like it, you still can flip it at double list price. Best, V.

When I try on a watch and I like it, 99% of the time I will go for it. And the Nautilus is so classy.
This is actually a very mature question -- most other people wouldn't even think about it for a second given the opportunity...My best advice is, try this simple but gorgeous Nautilus on, and then just follow your heart! Keep us posted ;-)

I wasn't trying to be flippant, I am not educated on the Nautilus collection and I know many members are. My PP collection is predominantly from the Calatrava collection.
Totally understandable, and it's actually a sign that your AD keeps your business and collection in high regard...Looking forward to learning what your decision is on this watch👍🥂

I think it's a nice watch at retail prices. Utterly bonkers at secondary market prices.
If you like the watch (and even if you don't), economically, this is a no risk proposition for you.

Considering you're even asking yourself this question already indicates you're not an ideal candidate for the Nautilus...
I probably sound like a broken record by now; people who buy watches at this level don't need to resort to asking other people's opinions. Especially from other people who don't know you personally, as they're not giving you tailored advice. You're likely a successful individual to own watches from Patek Philippe, Cartier, and Rolex. Give yourself a little credit; I'm sure whatever decision you make WHEN YOU SEE THE WATCH IN PERSON it'll be the right one. Don't let another person who doesn't know you personally influence your decision!

As an owner who is past the hype...
I just wanted to provide this advice... Look at your timepieces. If they're all scratched up, you might want to reconsider on the Nautilus. The Nautilus is a scratch magnet. Meaning a Nautilus will get even more scratched up than a normal watch. And the Nautilus does not lend itself to polish very well, expect to have to replace the bezel and other case parts after every two polishes. Or simply don't polish the watch and wear it with the scratches. Or simply wear the watch extremely cautiously so you don't accumulate scratches. A Nautilus can look very shabby much faster than the typical watch if you're not careful. If shabby looking watches bother you and your current watches aren't in perfect condition, just know that you're going to be bothered.

I owned the Nautilus ... way back when the 5711 first came out. I was surprised at the finish, first and foremost. I could tell, the bracelet finish was not going to age well. There was a flimsiness to it as well that made me shake my head... I sold it pretty fast. Now, of course, regardless of the realities of the watch, resale value is such that it just blinds. But Patrick's comment is spot on.This watch is so hyped... I've mostly given up attempting to admonish potential buyers... because one assumes the purchase is simply about resale now. But it is a great looking watch. Owning an AP RO, I have to say, the difference in all aspects is night and day. Just for a reference. While AP RO is equally hyped and crazily over-valued now... it--at least--is a near perfect watch and maybe even exceeds expectations. Finally, not bashing Nautilus--but I felt Patrick's comment was worth underlining.
Agreed Mostel, that bracelet is a nightmare!
A nice looking but totally impractical design. The polished parts STICK UP and get scratched, while the brushed parts are below where they won't get scratched... Exactly the opposite way to do it!
If this is something you will keep, it's a no brainer; otherwise I'd pass
