Your journey through this crazy hobby of ours has been one filled with beautiful Watches. You have clearly always had a great eye for quality Patek Watches and your leaning towards the white metal versions was visionary in its day. I knew you had owned some great watches but no idea how many. Funny that you were Tom Bolted at about the same time as me but i was buying Rolex. With regards to keeping them all my friend I know how that must feel and I think most of us have moved Watches on to make room for others only to regret it later on. It is only the few who can keep them all. This begs the question is it better to have owned and sold or never owned???? Difficult one but by owning touching and feeling the Watches you have even then to sell I feel it puts you up a level in our world and in my book you have earned the right to have a greater depth of knowledge and opinion on these Watches. There is nothing that can replace ownership and touch and feel when it comes to opinions and knowledge. Although everyone is allowed an opinion it does annoy me a little when we get some big opinions here from people who have owned touched felt and lived with only a few watchâs. You on the other hand my friend have an opinion I would listen to. Great post Imran thank you and I look forward to the modern story. M.
Like you, I too was on a fixed income but the passion for watches was often not commensurate with my income. I even took out loans to buy many of the watches and it was quite common to have to sell a watch before being able to afford the next one. I do envy many of the purists here who are able to collect watches without having to sell any. I am glad you posted your experience because it gives encouragement and inspiration for the less well healed collectors amongst us. You are a true Patek man!
Well said sir. And I donât know any collectors in 25 years who havenât had to sell a watch or two.....

So I think it is a very very very small number who have held onto everything theyâve owned. Such a nightmare for most of us having many more watches to buy then the income ( and partner ) will allow. M.
Its perhaps not a good thing, but wr finance cars so I did it for watches! At least with Patek you are reasonably on steady financial ground But yes, it reminds me of the greatest Patek owner He drives a bus Earns ÂŁ560/week Has 4 kids Spent 2 years saving for a speedmaster Then bought a submariner 16610 new on 4 years interest free credit Followed by another 4 years of saving up for a vintage calatrava 570 in yellow gold! Now that is a watch lover And is that the perfect 3 watch collection? Thanks Best Imran
Extremely interesting !!! personal watch history and some amazing watches. Thanks for sharing both!

I remember well (and partook of) the opportunity to acquire relatively easily great vintage watches at relatively reasonable prices. And because the market kept going up and up, it was always easy to trade out - and at a profit no less! I also remember the mid 90s when the truly visionary Philippe Stern came out with the 5035 and other mid and grand complication watches - the beginning IMHO of a new "golden age of watch making". And that is when (like you) I turned to modern Pateks. Can't wait for Part 3 of your story. Best, patekova
