Porsche Cayman GTS 4.0.

 By: amanico : September 25th, 2021-08:31
This morning, I took a good 30 minutes to play with the Porsche configurator and had a " my best Cayman game ".

I opted for the 4.0 version. Why?

Because of its noble motor, compared to the 2.0 Turbo of the other Caymans, or the 1.8 Turbo of my Alpine.

Because of its performances, which are above the Alpine, in this case, even if the weight / power ratio is very close, due to the lightness of the Alpine ( -300 kilos ).

Because of its way better finish ( interior ), compared to the Alpine.

Here is the outcome of my configurator game:

Now, if we are talking about money, the difference between a well prepared Alpine and this Cayman GTS 4.0 is around 30, 000 Euros... Without the eco tax ( + another 30, 000 euros, yes, I know, totally crazy ).

With a good preparation on the Alpine, you are somewhere 300 / 320 HP, and you can remove 40 kilos and go around 1075 kilos... Compared to the 400 HP and 1, 400 Kilos of the GTS 4.0 ... Except the max speed, there is no difference...

Aesthetically, the Cayman, in this version is a killer, I must admit, and most probably, its engine is a charm to listen to.

Food for thought.

Best,

Nicolas

It's a very fine sportscar

I had a green one for a day nicely spec'd with PCCB. It was a lot of fun. As expected the engine was nice but the suspension was the highlight of the test drive, damping was superb. It was so good that it's the first thing my wife commented on, she was surprised it was so comfortable. A shame the a110 isn't offered with a manual, also I believe the alpine is more fun at lower speeds. While the GTS isn't as frustrating to drive as the GT3, the engine is a completely different beast as you approach the redline but by that time you are in jail territory., even if the 4-liter will happily chug along in traffic. The boxster GTS is very high on my wish list as I'd love to go back to a convertible but the financial commitment is significant and in 992.1 prices. The new 400Z in convertible form would be perfect !

What a beast. Thanks for sharing your feelings.

The Cayman is a stunner.

Well aware of the Porsche ethos but always disliked the 911 style. Purely on aesthetics. The Cayman however is sublime. I was told that if the power plant was beefed up it would outperform the 911 but of course that would have been a marketing problem. Until EV reared it’s (place your adjective here) head I was considering a Cayman or the Jaguar roadster (styling very similar) but opted for turbos in my Z. The Jag was in the $90’s for the R type. It will be interesting to see EV body styling develop. In a quandary. I hope EV doesn’t kill the things that made us all want to go out and drive.

Funny, I was very interested by the F Type!

A lovely car. I like the exterior colour but not that red. I’d go for black I think.

Well, if this is the only doubt I have, it would be cool! ;)

Hi Nicolas,

the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and the 718 GT4 are different cars. The GT4 has a completely different suspension, wheels, tires  etc. and 420 hp vs. 400 hp. The look is different too and, of course, the price. 😂

I had a doubt. Thanks for the correction and the clarification. You have the GT4, don't you?

The 718 Spyder which is basically a convertible GT4.

What I thought. I love the one you have.

Nice one. Do you like red? :)

My direct neighbor has a GT4...great car. Very pure.

He has done a fair amount of upgrades, not that any are needed. It's an amazing drive and sounds terrific.

Red, well, yes, but I have to see it in the real life, to be sure of its hue.

Funny, I just have one 718 GTS for the week

And took it to the holy trinity of Swiss mountain passes this morning.

Will share drive impressions in another post, some stuff I loved, some I really disliked smile

Cheers

Seb

Yes, please do so. I am very interested to read you.

That eco tax is brutal! I love my Cayman but the Alpine + 60k euro in watches sounds better :)

Hehehe... Well, in terms of performances, we are not far, here.

All-around fantastic car, Nicolas..

Hope you can acquire one.  If not this one, maybe a late-model pre-owned one.  I once owned a beautiful 2012 Cayman R (in Meteor Grey) for 6.5 years.  It was lovely to look at and absolutely awesome to drive.  I sold it in 2019 only because of a desire to streamline my possessions.  It was in perfect shape with super low-mileage, so it was quite easy to sell.  The Cayman is a gorgeous car, all model years!  Hope you are able to find one.

Well, I already have the Alpine, which is my personal milestone, here, but that doesn't mean I have no interest on other cars!

Funny, I’ve done the same thing with the same car.

Is PASM worth the extra money?

That I don't know...

 By: amanico : September 25th, 2021-20:50

I really want to drive one. My checkbook not so much.
