Mixed feelings on the new release? No worries

All you need to do is flip out the ALS watch in your collection and enjoy it.

My L1 with a new “suit” — kind of a special grey gator with baby blue stitch:

Of course...forgive the intrusion, I am still honeymooning with my Db25, so will never hesitate to whip it out for a photo shoot.

Sorry, I only shoot “dirty” smile

Some quick thoughts about the Lange 1 Time Zone. I think the initial photos left me a little unfeeling and “cold”. But I do believe we need to see it in the flesh to be able to judge accurately. Having achieved so much success in the 90s, I think it truly is hard to outdo oneself year after year. Well, at least that’s the case with me. At some point, life is gonna be about diminishing returns isn’t it ? I wouldn’t sweat the 2020 offerings, or even 2021. Enjoy what you already have, and give thanks.

Happy Tuesday folks.

Cheers
Gatsby

Words of wisdom. Agreed on all counts. Enjoy your very cool Lange One, my friend, and this strap works very well, here. [nt]

I actually do not own any Lange! While I do respect them a lot and I’ve been following them for years, I just can‘t find a Lange that‘s making me really want to own it.

I‘ve tried on at least a dozen over the last 6-7 years, but I never felt like pulling the trigger. For me, they all (well, except for the Zeitwerk, the new Odysseus and some high end pieces) look like variations of the same. That doesn’t make it easier to find „my Lange“. The watches that came closest to being bought were the Grand Lange 1 Moonphase Platinum(because of case and dial) and the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds (because of case and movement).

Mate, I think Lange is a bit different.

I'm not sure how you're wired, but I've been following you for awhile now on the forum and (correct if I'm mistakened) I assume you cherry pick 1-2 from various brands you're interested in and that forms the bulk of your collection. I think when it comes to assessing Lange, their history must be factored in. Example when the Lange 1 was first made, its design ethos was considered to be somewhat groundbreaking, and also breathtaking. It changed the way we look at dress watches and also the much hated date window for purists who wish for time only (HMS) watches. The datograph -- I guess that one needs no introduction. So I guess, if you judge the watch purely basis its technical and aesthetic merits, maybe there are more interesting watches out there today. But put them within the context of time, they become much more special. I also feel that Lange needs to be appreciated as a group of watches collectively, instead of just individually.

Well spoken, Gatsby

Enjoy your nice pieces. Like the new strap.

PS about Lange. For me personally it was the watch the have, after I've been away from watch collecting for a period of more than 10 years. The first watch I bought in 2019 after that long 10 years was... a Lange 1 in white gold.

Have a nice day,
George

Dear George, thanks for sharing with me your experience

I think you made a wonderful choice! What color is your dial? Hope to see more pictures of your watch.
Cheers,
G

Thank you G!

It's the classic dial in argenté.

Too kind.

"Whip it out for a photo shoot." Is that still a thing?...

...but on a serious note, really nice strap on the L1. This model looks great without the moonphase...

Thanks mate

The moon phase is nice, but I much prefer the “base” Lange 1 that just somehow feels a bit more pure, if you get what I mean.

Beautiful combination

Lange makes beautiful watches to a stupidly high level of execution, but they tend to look very serious and so understated that they almost need to be "jazzed up" a bit. You've managed it with this combination, withot going overboard. I'd be very happy with this on my wrist.

That combo is so good!!!

And you're torturing me with the beautiful pics of your L1 Luminous!!
