I would love to see this without the repeater as an enamel dial Classique time only

 By: ifraher : January 14th, 2022-17:20
I recall a model for the Ginza store a few years ago with a central seconds, while undeniably attractive it was limited in number. The time only Classique on blue or even white enamel would be welcome. They have a blue dial central seconds with a date that I don't feel works unfortunately.

They also have the exact watch, time only without date and without minute repeater. The Ginza Edition.

That has central seconds

Also long gone... Having checked their site they do not offer many refs. in enamel, such a nice option on the Classique

Yes, the Ginza Edition is a rare watch.

Have you heard Breguet Minute Repeaters? They're awful!

 By: patrick_y : January 14th, 2022-17:36
They are AWFUL!  Bad volume and bad tonality.  Also quite slow.  Breguet does amazing work on almost all of their watches.  But when it comes to the minute repeaters, I strongly implore you hear them first and others to compare...  The Breguet pieces I've heard are awful.  The worse offender is the minute repeater perpetual calendar.

I'm am think this style minus the repeater

So a 5157BR/11/9V6 or a 7147BB/29/9WU but with the blue dial... the opposite end of their pricing scale

Those are beautiful watches...

I really like the guilloche dial one A LOT! Just exquisite. Breguet really do make some amazing timepieces (just not minute repeaters). I'd live without the minute repeater and with the extra 100,000+ Pounds in my bank account.

I have to agree. The Regulator makes a lot of noise and deadens the sound of the minute repeater.

 By: amanico : January 14th, 2022-17:46

Yes, you are right, scratchy and loudly whirring regulator...

 By: patrick_y : January 14th, 2022-17:50
Reminds me of my IWC minute repeater, but possibly worse.

Naaah, at the same level. Same for Blancpain, by the way.

You start here an interesting discussion: how would you rate all minute repeaters and which one is the best one?

 By: eklektik : January 14th, 2022-21:36
In my eyes, it is the most impressive complication, the one I only saw once thanks to a good friend (😉) and the one I would love to own one day.
Have you got a list in mind? It would make a fantastic post!

Patek, Vacheron, AP and JLC, not necessarily in this order.

 By: amanico : January 14th, 2022-21:46

Interesting, thanks!

 By: eklektik : January 14th, 2022-23:42

The best is to listen to all of them, each time you can.

 By: amanico : January 15th, 2022-08:38

+1! The Chopard is interesting too. Although aesthetically, it's a little thick and not everyone likes the dial design.

 By: patrick_y : January 15th, 2022-17:18
AP is very special in minute repeaters, they were one of the first to do carillons, meaning more than two gongs.  AP actually has a rich history in minute repeaters.  Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin minute repeaters really do sound wonderful, very crisp, great tonality, usually fantastic volume, and usually a medium-fast speed, 12:59 sequence usually done in under 20 seconds.

My MR makes for sure no scratchy sounds. And also the regulator makes no noise?

But maybe I just got lucky with my piece?

Hmm... IWCs I've heard generally have had a lot of regulator noise.

 By: patrick_y : January 18th, 2022-05:26
What other minute repeaters have you heard?

Same observations for me, too.

 By: amanico : January 18th, 2022-06:33

LOL maybe I'm just hard of hearing?

 By: MTR : January 18th, 2022-11:34
I was already allowed to hear a few watches with sound:

• Vacheron two-hand watch (unfortunately I don't remember the reference anymore; it had a very pure dial and a platinum case) - and it did sound very beautiful but not loud
• UN Hour Striker (not a Minute Repeater - I know) in RG
• ALS Zeitwerk Striking Time (not the MR) - with a very nice sound but - for me - too quiet
• Parmigiani Toric Minute Repeater in RG (for me a very underrated brand)
• Breguet Musicale 7800 in WG (also not a MR, but I liked it very much!)

I have had not the chance so far to hear a Patek MR or the JLC MR like Nico has.

 By: patrick_y : January 18th, 2022-19:59
I don't think I've heard the Toric Minute Repeater from Parmigiani. Hmm. If you get a chance, try a modern minute-repeater only Patek Philippe or a modern minute-repeater only Vacheron Constantin and those are usually quite good. They are fully integrated movement (your IWC movement is like a layered cake where there's a time system and then a minute repeater module that's attached to the front side of the watch (it needed to be on the front side to read the hour and minute hand position, since the "reader" couldn't be integrated from the back).

Yes, you are very lucky, because mine ( first generation ) made quite some noise ( regulator ).

 By: amanico : January 18th, 2022-06:33

Perhaps they made some improvements with the second generation?

 By: MTR : January 18th, 2022-11:37
Or perhaps they changed something during the service? Mine had a complete service before I bought it.

Or I'm partially deaf… 😎😁

 By: amanico : January 18th, 2022-16:11

You're probably not deaf.

 By: patrick_y : January 18th, 2022-20:05
Your hearing is most likely adequate.  It's probably just you gotta listen to a lot more minute repeaters.  These things are definitely hard to find since most stores won't carry them.  Even on WatchProSite, not every WPS reader has even heard A SINGLE minute repeater.  Considering you possess one and have heard more than one - means that you're in a very special club!

So… how do you REALLY feel?

 By: Brandon Skinner : January 19th, 2022-21:23
Just kidding, and more importantly… thanks for your honesty. So important that we have real honest discussions about watches. It’s the only way things get improved.

Thank you for the support!

 By: patrick_y : January 19th, 2022-22:39
Breguet does a lot of amazing watches. Just the minute repeaters don't sound great. But 99% of their watches otherwise are truly fantastic. Lots of beautiful hand engraving on some of their movements too. Just great products!

It does look nice with the blue dial!

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : January 14th, 2022-17:41

I have the blue enamel dial classique central seconds with date, 5177bb

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : January 14th, 2022-18:39
And I absolutely love it. I don't show it here, due to all the negative comments. I will say that the blue enamel for the time only that I have is a different blue than the blue enamel tourbillon. The time only is darker, and I prefer it. I will try to see this minute repeater in the metal at the boutique.

I just had to do a search for the 5177bb

 By: carl : January 14th, 2022-19:11
That is a really nice looking watch. Was it only in blue or was there a white enamel version too?

It's currently in blue enamel, white enamel, and guilloché.

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : January 14th, 2022-20:59
Yellow, rose, or white gold, many options!

And the movement has two small internal angles in the anglage, just to let you know they are doing it right at Breguet.
