The wonderful universe of Breguet.

 By: amanico : June 19th, 2019-06:53
Shame on me, Breguet is a brand I am discovering. For some years, now, yes, but there are brands I know much better.

Why? I couldn't say.

But one thing is sure: They made and still make some very nice and good watches.

Here is my conception of the wonderful universe of Breguet, my level of knowledge about this great brand.

1/ The 1775, the Subscription watch. Platinum case, enamel dial. A wonder.

How I would have loved a manual winding movement!

2/ 3330: Pure Breguet DNA. One of the most styled and refined complete calendar and moon phase! In white gold, here.

3/ 3420: In a delicious platinum case, a jumping hour.

4/ La Tradition, white gold, 37 mm case. If there is a watch which sums what is the Breguet DNA, this is, for me, the La Tradition, along with the 3330.

5/ Classique Enamel Blue. The current one. Ref 5177 In White Gold.

6/ The sublime Chronograph 5247, in white gold and its enamel dial...

7/ I will not close this selection without mentioning the only one in my collection, the Type XX Platinum and its salmon dial, of course.

I would gladly mention a vintage Type XX, FG 54 or a later one such as a CEV... But we'll soon discuss that.

Please share with us your thoughts and Breguet of your dreams!

Fantastic watches, Nicolas!

Especially the first one without a date and snail chrono smile! Thanks for sharing.

My two favorites. Thanks, J K. [nt]

A watch company who makes good products

 By: cazalea : June 19th, 2019-07:06
But which I have never come close to desiring, no matter how many times I try them on. An enigma to me.

Surprising, because I consider some Breguet watches very close to the most exquisite Vacheron. Which is a real compliment. [nt]

I love Breguet!

The soft spot for this brand in my heart is big. Your selection here is a great representation, but I wouldn’t consider myself anywhere close to an expert on the brand.

I am lucky to own the Tradition you show here but only in the automatic version with retrograde seconds. I had a Type XX years ago that I let go that I consider replacing quite often. The snail chrono is one I’ve considered, too. It’s very charming and unmistakably Breguet. The current blue enamel is nice, but without date would be sublime and I’d be trying very hard to add one. I really regret the date with this watch. I think without it, this reference would become a modern classic.

Thank you, Nico, for highlighting this wonderful brand. It feels as though they’ve given up on the US market. Either that or there is no direction here. It’s a shame. Either way, I love the history and the aesthetics that are so strong.

There is a lot to appreciate and excellent reasons to be fan of this brand. I will try to share my discoveries here. My next probable target will be the Enamel Chrono, or a vintage Type XX. [nt]

Thanks Nico for this interesting survey! It’s a distinguished brand with a very clear identity that I, too, didn’t have a good chance to fully appreciate yet...😀Cheers [nt]

Thanks, Fab. There are some great details, in terms of finishings and decoration. I will tell you more about that. [nt]

Good topic! I would include the Marine 5817 as a long-lived classic.

There are a number of real charmers in the classique collection, the enamel moonphase 7787, for example. Modern Breguet's insistence on following in A.L. Breguet's footsteps as an innovator points to models such as the classique chronometrie 7727, which won the grand prize at the GPHP the year it was unveiled.
However, one thing we are missing is Breguet's real strength in women's watches. The Reine du Naples and in the classique and marine lines there are amazing women's watches with excellent automatic movements to be found. This is an area Breguet excels quietly.

The Reine de Naples has to be added, indeed. It is one of the nicest ladies watch.

From the collection of this year.

Agreed with you Nico but I would add one...

By: Mike H : June 19th, 2019-16:07 which is 200% Breguet DNA and that I find absolutely stunning the ref 3137 (same as 3130 but with sapphire case back and skeleton movement).
Actually my podium would be 1775 (Indeed superb and understated as I like), 3137 (white gold case even if other metals have a lot of charm too on this model) and of course… your Pt Type XX wink

Good reference, my friend. Thanks, Mike. [nt]

Great Post, Mon Ami. Truly A Special Brand...

... And when you think about it, the Watchmaker To The King (Horloger de Joi?) practiced his craft only a few kilometers away...

- Scott

L'Horloger du Roi. Yes. ;) Yes, he practiced just close to the Court of Justice of Paris. At 100 meters! [nt]

I love Breguet

 By: Mostel : June 19th, 2019-17:51
But is Breguet 'Breguet' any more? Whoever is running this brand has been very true to it... but what is 'Breguet'?

I love the purest Breguets... time/no date/gorgeous dials and numerals... gasp-worthy movements!
Of course the vintage/vintage inspired chronos...

Why Breguet does not re-issue a 'vintage' military chrono is beyond understanding, Nico?!

It will probably happen soon.

I totally agree with you on a re issue of a Type XX, Mostel. [nt]

My Absolute Favorite

I could spend hours looking at these photographs. They capture everything that makes a Breguet a Breguet.

Exactly my feelings, Uncle. Thanks for commenting. [nt]

Complete calendar

 By: Jurry : June 22nd, 2019-08:07
That complete calendar is so elegant and yet so cool at the same time.

A feast for the eye

One of the very first Breguet which caught all my attention. Thanks for your feedback, Jurry. [nt]
