Omega dreaming... with the new 8929

Jan 23, 2019,18:33 PM

Well, Omega has finally done what heretofore no one else has (JLC, IWC, Rolex/Tudor, PP and on and on). A modern manual wind central seconds Amagnetic movement sans date.

If Omega plays this Ace card well, it could reap huge benefits with this single piece. Think modern IWC 666A, JLC E168, JLC/IWC Mark XI, true Railmaster descendant, an already improved Omega 1948 central seconds, manual wind diver!, etc etc etc, all with reasonably thin case, to include decent 10 bar WR, steel steel steel. Yes, I know, Omega has no pilot's watch heritage, but they could enter the market now with a killer watch in this regard. And improve on JLC's 1958 geophysic not to mention IWC's ingenieur. Bring back the sword hand diver Seamaster 300 with this movement. And keep solid caseback for all of these. No need to add more thickness for no reason. Just keep the dials classic, classy with no unnecessary text on the dials or silly decals/boats/etc on the solid caseback.

Now, will Omega take the first step with even just one of these possibilities? Am I crazy? Crazy like a fox, methinks...

For competing with Ingenieur, Omega has created the Railmaster (not the trilogy)

It,s automatic, without date, and basically the same with caliber 8929 sand the rotor. I agree however that they need a modern classic Pilot watch to compete with IWC and Breitling. The speedmaster professional is more of a "space and land" watch with wea...

I agree it's good to see a brand "daring" to make a manaul time only without date.

And I would love to see a manual movement Tribute to Railmaster! But, to suggest a Geophysic with a Omega movement...? Or a IWC 666A, where the "A" stands for Automatic, with a manual movement...?!! But I think you have a good point in that Omega takes th...

You misunderstood my thoughts... I did not mean for JLC or IWC to use this movement, but for Omega to produce its own watches in these styles as natural successors to these historically loved models.

In part because these other manufacturers currently have no interest in producing their own in house successors to these pieces... Omega could gain new clients and achieve more love from its own current customers.

Modern interpretations of the Railmaster, Ranchero, and . . .

. . . most significantly, the 30T2SCrg chronometers - all would be catnip. Art

All of the above please :)

The chronometer would be 👍 great

I'm hoping for a Ranchero . . .

I hope they offer a 3 Hz variant too. I can think of tons of watches for that! Best, -- Richard.

Omega actually has quite a "pilot's watch" history

 By: reintitan : January 26th, 2019-01:22
The "Thin" and "Fat Arrow" watch from 1953, for example, was made specifically for RAF navigators and pilots. This was the replacement for the Mark 11 specification. Then there are the 1930s pilot's watches with the winding crowns with the long stems. The...

Reintitan, thank you once again for your knowledgeable addition to this thread.

If I have previously seen Omega's three-hand pilot's watches, I did not remember them, and will now need to search for your references. Pilot type chronographs are not the focus here, obviously. Regardless, my point is that there are many historic handsom...

Anything is possible. Omega is mining their history very deeply now so let's hope

 By: reintitan : January 28th, 2019-15:13
they choose some real good ones from their past to resurrect!

. . . and if Omega issues a sub-seconds variation . . .

. . . of the new movement, the possibilities expand. [watch credit: Roger G / photo credit: Dr No] ;-) ...
