For example, I would not want anyone but the manufacturer to service my JLCs, Pateks, APs, VCs, etc...so why would it be different for my Omegas, Rolexes, etc...?
Yes I do agree that the cost is a factor but I think about aspect when I purchase a watch in the first place. If I cannot foresee paying the servicing fees, then I shouldn't be purchasing the watch in the first place.
It is sort of like purchasing a Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc...and expecting to pay the servicing fees of a Honda or Toyota. Before purchasing ANY luxury item, I would imagine that the buyer would figure in future costs of ownership, at least I do and I would hope others do as well. These are luxury items and far from necessities so cost of ownership should be a factor in any purchase prior to doing so.
Cutting costs on servicing through outsourcing or going through Independent channels is an option but I see a risk in doing so. Forgot to also add that I also appreciate having the manufacturer's warranty after a complete service which also adds value that an Independent cannot offer even though they could also offer their own warranty period. It is not the same for me. If we are talking vintage, that is a different story due to other factors as well.
Just my 2 cents 😉😜
