My Old SMP300

While it may look chunky here, I can't believe that my Railmaster 60th is thicker by a millimeter (12.8 vs 11.8).

This SMP wears really well. If there's one that I can say about these modern SMPs, or at least the ones from this era, is that the weight from watch head to clasp is so evenly distributed. Pop it on an ISofrane strap and the watch transforms into something else entirely. It becomes even more comfortable on the wrist.

Weight/thickness, balance is one thing that they got really right that gets easily overlooked. And probably for good reason. It easily qualifies as a one watch daily wearer which makes it a keeper for the average non-watch guy so it's not a watch that one would see often for sale. I had a co-worker who had a blue dial variant who was a non-watch guy and wore it day in day out. You'd get a hundred hits for a same era Submariner in a place like Chrono24 vs something like 7 hits for a 2254.50. Sure, they're not apples to apples but from a volume seller standpoint, it's probably a valid metric to consider as they both were.. and still are volume sellers.

I havent had this serviced since I bought it 15 years ago. Right now, i have the RM on my right wrist (hurray for that push down extension link as my right wrist is slightly bigger than my left) and the SMP is just a sec or two faster than the RM. Of course, the seals need to be checked at some point.

When I bought this watch from when they didn't have boutiques, the sales manager slotted me in on a 5 day Omega Celebrity challenge in some upscale beach resort. Since I was a nobody, I got grouped with no-name up and comers and has beens in the local enterntainment industry. We were probably cannon fodder for the real stars so that they can shine even brighter. Lackluster performance aside, I had a great time. I had this piece on a NATO during all the water events which included a jetski race from one island to the next. Looking back the trip alone probably cost more than what I paid for the watch! Nowadays, buying anything at this price point would only get you a catalog (probably hinting that you didn't buy enough). Those were the days.

Still loving this 41mm milspec-inspired piece more than a decade later.

Well-balanced

Accompanied me on many photo trips

Thanks for looking smile

..

15 years, that makes a long time, these days, when people buy watches at the speed of sound and sell them in a short time. Bravo. I love these old companions of ours, who were the witnesses

Of our good and bad moments. Yes, this is a version I remember very well, because I always found it very cool, and as a good alternatives to modern Subs. Best, my friend. Nicolas

Fully agree..

I even checked out the old receipts.. I was surprised to remember that the amount they put on the official receipt is different from the amount that I paid which was reflected on another document! Even box and papers tell a story

Fully agree

It is a very nice looking and very well performing Omega. The Speedmaster bracelet is actually fitting quite well, in terms of design and wearing comfort. Mine is also 10 years old now and it is still in my collection. It was my first serious watch that s...

Ah yes, the Speedmaster bracelet definitely gives it a modern vibe..

Whereas the Bond one kinda dates it. The other nice thing about our watches is how the series seem to have jumped over it in attention.. from the Bond variants then on to the new POs and SMPs. Like it was just a quick blip on the radar. Heck I even liked ...

Great shot!

Nice sword hands, beautiful subtle wave pattern. The only downside for me is the scalloped bezel, although beautiful, is a bit harder to turn (less grip) than a coin-edge bezel like Planet ocean or submariner. I have the SM300 Commander watch, which is th...

Agree on the scalloped bezel..

It was a later version that started my watch obsession (long ago traded away, though). ...

Nice thing about this series is that it doesn't get away too far from its original design..

Would've been helpful though if they just stuck to one design for the hands all throughout, for example.. sword hands or skeleton.. bond bracelet or speedmaster bracelet.. round or triangular indices.. Cheers, Echi

thanks for sharing this story Echi!

. . . only watch. Wears it everyday. His profession? Well, he's moved up a few notches since, but at one time, he was a parole agent for the State of California. And the SM was on his wrist for many adventures. He busted a few baddies with the Omega - not...

Hehe that's a good story, Art..
