There was I comment I read the other day where someone remarked that Omega would not have thrived (or maybe even survived) if it wasn’t for their relationship with NASA. I don’t know how much of that is true, but I admit that the Speedmaster’s history has had a big impact on my appreciation for the brand. Nevertheless, I’d like to think the Speedy would have still been a beloved model no matter, but it’s storied history with NASA is out of this world.🚀

The Speedmaster debuted in 1957 and wasn't tested until 1965
So, it lasted ≈8 years without NASA's assistance.

Seamasters, manual chronometers, some sublimissime 33.3, and of the course the Railmaster, with out forgetting some military pieces.

I have the blue one which I almost passed on due to mediocre legibility but mine has the opposite problem. On mine the high polished hands are easy to see only when they
are over the black subdials vs on the black one where the black hands tend to disappear when they are on top of those black subdials! Overall though I think the black one is a bit more legible.
I didn’t notice legibility issues specifically because I tend to wear this when doing outdoor activities and the sun/lighting is good, so the angle and light make it easy.
But to Carlos’ point, the sliver of lume on the minute hand is inadequate for low light / dark conditions.

High polished hands over dark blue is easy to see. High polished hands are harder to see when over silver dial. The black version has the opposite legibility problem. ...
Your welcome! Wish my library had a better example as that hour hand is still fairly obvious in that 2nd image but in some lighting conditions the hands do become
low contrast when over the silver dial. I still love the watch though!
Clearly Omegas crown jewel is the Speedmaster…
I would make the point that their “relationship” with NASA exists because Omega beat out the competition which included Rolex…not on price but quality and function. So it can be said that they have been known as a company that produces fine watches and NA...
