Just a very "quick and dirty" personal assessment of some Omega results at yesterday's Phillips auction

I attended the viewing and subsequent Phillips auction in Geneva yesterday. Primary purpose was to meet with "real life" people, good watch collecting friends and this event offers a great opportunity to do so.

Lot 18 was a CK 2451 issued to the Airforce of Argentina. A nice, classic, military watch that is quite rare. It went for CHF 20'000 which is in my view a solid but fair price.

Lot 36 was a really interesting one: Omega 145.014 Speedmaster Alaska I Prototype issued to NASA. It is always difficult to estimate price ranges for prototypes. Phillips estimated CHF 40-60k but the lot went after quite a hefty bidding war for CHF 193'750

Lot 37 was a classical "Ed White" i.e. a ST 105.003-65 which ended at the lower range of the estimate (20-30) and was sold for CHF 21'250. I think a fair price for the watch and condition.

Lot 39: This one was a bit of a debate ahead of the autions and I picked up some interesting "behind the scenes" comments. Not surprisingly, bidding was - let me call it - careful and the watch passed un-sold

Lastly I pick the original "Trilogy" starting with Lot 111, the Speedmaster CK 2915-1. As you might remember I posted a short note ahead of the auction stating that I did not expect new records on the 2915 this weekend and this is what we have seen coming true. This one was estimated CHF 150-300k and it sold for CHF 200'000. I think this is a good price level and I would see this as a "new floor" for decent quality 2915 going forward.

Lot 112 was the Omega Railmaster CK 2914-1: good condition, rare "dash-one" and consequently it went at the upper part of the estimate at CHF 47'500 which I think is a very nice and rich level.

Equally Lot 113, the Seamaster CK 2913-3 was obviously not a "dash one" but a "dash three". This is by the way still a mystery to me as I have never seen a 2913 "dash one" and I had picked up from some collectors that 2913 do not exist as "dash one". This is not an established fact but something I need to dig into at some point. It sold at the upper range of the estimate for CHF 50'000 which again I would call a nice and rich level

Lastly, we had a very nice, clean Speedmaster CK 2915-2 as Lot number 114. This one was estimated at CHF 150-250 and it actually sold for CHF 225'000, hence slightly higher than the 2915-1. The dial of this "-2" is in really remarkable condition and - again - I think we have seen a bit of a new definition of a floor price for 2915 going forward at around CHF 200'000

I really do find these types of post very interesting, especially when the OP carries the relevant knowledge / history of the watches. Thank you. I'd also be interested in what you thought the general feel was on the ground in Geneva. I know we can wait a...

The general feel in one sentence: quality pays. Try to get the best. Pay premium for the best.

Do not compromise. The Rolex „Killy“ was one of those examples. Cheers, HSTE

Thank you...

could you please elaborate on lot 39? Thank you again

On 39 my personal view was that the estimate was very rich.

If this fact is then coming in combination with certain doubts it‘s going to be tough. I can not assess those doubts as I did not have the time to dig into this. But there was something there that did not help. Cheers, HSTE

Thank you! [nt]

Dumbfounded by the Alaska result. Others are pretty much . . .

. . . as expected, but in general, prices have climbed higher than expected even a few years ago. Amazing. Best, Art
