It's striking to see just how popular and clubbable this great watch has become in such a short time. Will Omega learn? Ease up on marketing and rapid-fire hash-rehash, dip into its vast store of historical references, and people will respond warmly.

It certainly helps too that this is a regular production watch, which is again demonstration that you don't need to slap an LE label on a watch for it to turn a trick in the market.
In the end, its presence on my feeds helped me go a different way. So I decided to return to Omega after 13 years with another new reference: the new Speedmaster 57 sandwich dial (due in a month or so). It's smaller and thinner than its predecessors, and carries Omega's top-tier manual movement. These refinements gave me the feeling that Omega's thoughtful application was stripping the idea of the watch to its essence. The result is solid fair in the form of nicely-channeled vintage looks with modern chops. That this watch sits a little away from the general Speedmaster buzz also helps me pretend that I made a left-field choice (such are the games we play with ourselves!).
