Go for it!

May 22, 2022,16:55 PM

I bought the sapphire version 18+ months ago and still enjoy it to this day and will never let it go.  Works brilliantly as both an only watch, and as part of a collection.  I love the history of it, the style, and the movement.  It is (IMO) a reasonably versatile and tough mechanical tool watch, and a "strap monster".  As for which one, well, my fellow forum colleagues will of course be much more knowledgeable than me, so once reading through their take on each, it will essentially be down to you trying both on and deciding.  A win either way.

Keep us posted, and welcome!

Hello All, I am new to the Omega forum and to the brand; in fact, I never considered buying an Omega watch until I saw the collab between Swatch and Omega. I always heard about the Speedmaster but never really gave it attention or considered it. But when ...

Go for it and either version is superb. Make the decision based on your own personal preference and if you would like to see the movement and have the tougher sapphire glass you have the answer. Let us know which you decide on and good luck !

As a big Omega fan and previous owner of the "Sapphire sandwich" version and current owner of the older 1861-001 with Hesalite..

I recommend the Hesalite version if you wont be afraid of the hesalite scratching. If that will bother you or worry you I would go with the sapphire sandwich. Nut there is something about the hesalite that makes it a different watch... I have owned both a...

It would be great to try on both

and it’s been a massive headache since I bought it. It stops working every nine months (right now the timekeeping works but the chronograph doesn’t) and it took six months to get back from omega the last time it was repaired. I also feel like for the mone...

The mechanical issues early production cal 3861 movements had with a bushing . . .

. . . and lubrication protocols were corrected within months of their initial reports. Assuming yours was returned to Omega almost immediately after purchase, it should now have the replacement bushing that doesn't cause premature wear on the center wheel...

Thanks

Thank you very much for sharing these pictures! And I do agree this watch looks great on almost every strap. I know for a fact that when I get mine I will change the strap frequently. It feels like you got a new watch. Wear your watch in great health!

You are very welcome ns23!

do so but it won’t be before 2-3 months because I am out of my country. However I might pay for the watch in advance because I got an excellent offer and want to secure it.

Thank you

all for your kind replies and pictures. I think I will go for the Sapphire crystal option for its durability and the see through case back. I know I said I wanted something close to the original watch but I am usually someone who doesn’t like scratches so...

You have now

Scratches make me nuts. Totally personal preference but if you are really going to wear it regularly sapphire IMO it’s the way to go😉

You have a point,

I guess I will go for the sapphire option. I can’t stand scratches in general let alone on the crystal!
