. . . on my wrist today. The contemporary ref 2494 sweep seconds version did morph into a Seamaster after the first two years of production, but 2493 never did. The subsidiary seconds version of ref 2494 that received the 'Seamaster' label was ref 2657.

You could say refs 2493 and 2657 are parallel references . . . no substantial difference between them other than the Seamaster moniker.
