The real issue here ....... Omega scaled the case to 38 mm

Mar 22, 2018,11:43 AM

hi everyone....
I am very excited about these... But I was also excited about the Alaska Project along with Chuck Maddox ...and once we saw it we both did not buy...( had them on order).
ok back to the new Seamasters...
The original was issued in 34 mm std size and they made a smaller amount in " Jumbo" 36 mm size.. still with 18 mm strap width.
The new issue is in 38 mm and I dont know the strap size... the devil is in the details here... need someone to post wrist shots.. This is something that needs to be held to really get to the bottom of it.... and how it sits on the wrist....

Wow! Omega just dropped some bombs!

Check this out! Omega seamaster limited edition 1948 Automatic, 38mm case, METAS cal. 8800 family, perfectly balanced subsecond subdial (glad they ditched their modified subsecond 1120 movement), AND FINALLY SHORT CENTRAL SECOND HAND! Best gift ever for m...

I wished I got skills to put things on my mind into words like people in here...

But as people says... Picture tells stories... πŸ˜‰

+1

That indeed is a beauty

That was originally like that...

 By: JFT : March 21st, 2018-10:38
Though not longer but I wish it was a bit thicker... Or used alpha hands πŸ˜‚ ...

The vintage handset looks much more proportionate than the new one IMO.

 By: vitalsigns : March 21st, 2018-10:40
And it's not just that they're short relative to the overall case size and dial, but that they appear disproportionate (length of hour hand relative to length of minute hand).

The more I look....

 By: JFT : March 21st, 2018-11:02
Seems that the hour hand got the same size as the subsecond hand on other version, lol! πŸ˜‚ But idk, I prefer this one cz it's easy to differentiate between the minute and hour hand now as sometimes I got confused with mine while reading the time in a glanc...

I could go for the subseconds version . . .

. . . if it had a black waffle dial.

Wait for it....

 By: JFT : March 21st, 2018-11:04
Next year probably they going to produce one with gilt black waffle dial, and platinum case... And it's out of my reach πŸ˜‚

kind of like mine...

Boom! My mind exploded!

Please post more about this piece.... Pretty please... 😌 Verrryy nice one, man! Best, Jev

Thank you,

['49 Ξ© ref 2576 cal 343] . . . but the original owner wanted it back in the worst possible way, so it was traded back for a ref 2364. Art ...

Wow! Too bad though...

 By: JFT : March 21st, 2018-11:13
Hope that the owner cherished it more now....

Oh, he really cherished it, for sure . . .

 By: Dr No : March 21st, 2018-11:16
. . . but it looks as though he's paring down his collection, and this one may be on the chopping block.

Sublime! [nt]

personally i like the subsecond subdial version. IMHO the hour hand seems too short on the other version - or is it only me ?! Best, mahesh.,

I agree, visually it seems too short....

 By: Blansky : March 21st, 2018-14:31
But so does the minute hand, but I wonder if this is just an optical illusion due to the minute markers being so close to the center of the dial instead of back where we are used to them. Obviously just a design choice, but the dial seems sort of β€œoff”. ...

I think these two watches are brilliant...

 By: orahu : March 21st, 2018-15:26
....my only complaint would be the engravings on the case back crystal. Does anyone know the process for purchasing these watches? Pre-order? Boutique only? Thanks.

+1!

I prefer to have a solid back rather than laser etched sapphire back that obstruct the view of the movement

Yeah!

Love everything about it!

Oh no... They ruined it!

 By: JFT : March 22nd, 2018-04:23
Was hoping to see the one like in the video and shared press picture then look what it is live in basel (credits from IG) They still can't stand to not ruin it! The only thing that need to be elongated is the hour hand not the second hand... Oh why....? H...

I'm pretty much with everyone else that's commented on the sweep version . . .

. . . when it comes to the hour and seconds hand. At first, I thought the larger case size might've been the cause for the mismatch, but on reflection, probably not. My guess is Omega didn't have properly sized hands available in time for Basel and went w...

Hmm. Odd. My hunch is that the seconds hand . . .

 By: Dr No : March 22nd, 2018-22:16
. . . will be changed by the time production rolls around. Thanks for sharing these pics, Jev. Art

Yuck. The hour hand is way too stubby. It should at least be long enough to touch the tip of the dagger hour markers.

 By: reintitan : March 22nd, 2018-13:34
This is the Omega version of the Rolex hour hand debacle when they released the Explorer I in 39 mm diameter for the first time. That hour hand was way too small as well.

Even worse is the elongated seconds hand. Hard to believe Omega . . .

 By: Dr No : March 22nd, 2018-16:08
. . . couldn't get a matter this obviously wrong sorted out. Perhaps these are mock-ups awaiting correction in the production process. Art
