Breitling had a Superocean Chronowerks priced at $39,000...few years back. This is of a similar idea. I doubt those watches sold well and I doubt they’ll maintain their value in the collectors market. I feel this Omega, while a cool timepiece, is not priced to sell.
Most people will choose the Richard Mille RM-35 over this ultralight Omega. Most people will choose a Patek 5270 over the Omega 18” CHRO. Most people will choose a Lange Datograph over the new 321 Platinum Speedmaster. These are safer, collector-approved decisions. For good reason, as the more prestigious brands offer what feels to be more intrinsic value at these price levels.
It almost seems purposefully arrogant. Omega’s strategy is pricing their special watches at pricing higher than the (roughly) equivalent quality watches from more prestigious brands.
I would expect that Omega would offer more intrinsic value when they sell watches priced well above their core range. See for example, Montblanc’s Minerva watches, which are finished better than Patek’s and priced lower.
Omega has gone the opposite way instead. So I assume these exist to bring up the perception of the core range. If they sell one or two to a curious soul, that’s a happy accident.
