Regardless of the debate as to whether your should send it to Omega or not, to answer your question A stands for "Avance", and R stands for "Retard" (delay)

Movement Regulation Question...

 By: mdg : September 9th, 2022-17:48
When I received this watch I had it cleaned and the crystal replaced. It doesn't look very clean to me but maybe it was in terrible shape before. In either case, it is running more than a bit fast and I'd like to tweak it a bit to get it to slow down. Is ...

Technically yes...

But it probably won't work out due to have sensitive it is. If you can tell it has been moved, you've moved it too much. Also, why is the serial number drilled out?

The original story is here:

Right. I remeber this watch now.

That is not clean, in my opinion

If it is running "more than a little too fast" it is likely that the hairspring is dirty and some of the coils are sticking to each other. Adjusting the regulator will not solve the problem. But you can nudge it back and forth if you wish. Just don't remo...

Yes..I am disappointed that it's not cleaner...

...but it started life in a South American jungle at least 50+ years ago. I may just leave it be and give my son some cash to get it cleaned again. Not sure if I'll have time to do it in the next month but I will check. Thanks.

take it to an omega authorised service centre in your country or check with them that this calibre can be serviced by them or needs to be sent to omega in switzerland to service as heritage

the reason that this watch is not performing correctly is that not only needs servicing and cleaning and oiling is that worn parts serviced cleaned and oiled will not make a watch run well. genuine omega replacement parts(as required) should get the movem...

Not great from a timing perspective...

...plus, I'm not sure what Omega will think of a movement with a serial number scratched out 50 years ago : )

thats true and the case back inside perlage finish is very poor

not great in any perspective-sorry to say

I persoanlly would strongly against sending it to Omega...

I would find a good private watch maker to service it.

I have a local, independent jeweler with a watchmaker that I've contacted...

...honestly, the watch only has sentimental value at this point. I'm willing to pay a few hundred to get it spiffed up and get a new band, but it's not worth much more than that. And I have my timeline to think of. My son wants it for his wedding mid-Octo...

Pauli is right on target. A basic coa . . .

. . . ( c lean, o il, a djustment) is all that's needed, which should run ~ $300 assuming no parts are required other than a mainspring. Once it's apart, though, should a watchmaker determine gear train parts are necessary, the sky's the limit. Art

That's about what I'd be willing to pay...

...I'll tell him to wear it and see. If it needs work in NY I will send hime a check : )

I figured that was the case but good to have confirmation...
