I believe it is a question not easy to answer. Perhaps quartz watches can be compared something to anything electronic or the computer whereby any parts can just break down without much of a reason, be it a branded watch? I only hope it would not be too costly to repair it. Still pending to know the cost.

The explanation that you were given sounds very 'fishy' to me. An Omega Quartz watch doesnt need the level of regular servicing that a mechanical movement does because there are so few moving parts. A quartz watch should run for many years with only batt...
