. . . to correct my foggy memory. There was a limited edition high performance Corvette in 1970, but it was a specially-built small-block 350 ci labeled ZR1. The ZL1 was offered only in 1969, and only two were reputedly built. Chevrolet sold approximately fifty ZL1 crate motors to the drag racing set; Bobby's ZL1 is licensed for street driving in California. That may be why he considers it unique.

The ZR1 350 option was 1970 only. The following year environmental regulations . . .
. . . forced manufacturers to lower compression ratios. There were still a few high-performance engines offered in '71 and '72 but by '73 they were all gone except for Pontiac's 455 HO. The very last high-performance engine was the '74 Pontiac 455 HO . . ...
