I've seen a black ref 2179 online . . .

. . . with steel leaf hands.

To the best of my knowledge, the US military order spanned  production runs /2 thru /6.   I've never seen any 2179  marked /1.   But I have seen a handful of 2179 casebacks without a slash.

The black 2179, as well as a few others with divergent design attributes, was one of those early examples without a slash, produced prior to the American military order.  I'd love to have one!

. . . is more than a fair match for the 2179. It's running slightly on the slow side, so off to my watchmaker for adjustment. Best, Art

This could be a nice re-issue..
