Fault
Sounds like cover up to me too but with warranty gone it is either you take it or leave it. I had sent to the authorised repair center. I was thinking of trying out at a private repairer but half hearted about whether I can trust him. Do you all send to the authorised one to do the job? Will it be more expensive there? Thanks for all replies.

The explanation that you were given sounds very 'fishy' to me. An Omega Quartz watch doesnt need the level of regular servicing that a mechanical movement does because there are so few moving parts. A quartz watch should run for many years with only batt...
