The discreet and the exuberant, The Logo face to face the 285

Nov 13, 2009,05:49 AM

Opportunity to have two ref under the hand, it was good to compare the simplest of foundations and most bad boy of sub.

To the left, 285. A " ghost " series, a kind of reissue of 194. A watch with all arguments to blow up quotation (the ancient fixings of the strap, face in the tritium, 250 ex) but to be made.
285 the diving toolwatch of tPaneraï, 47mm, titanium box, bezel in steel, helium valve, 2500m, automatic movement.

To the right, The Logo. Box of nineties, unitas, painted face as the 285, 44mm of steel, 300m.

First finding, Logo seems bigger than 285. Really, it is thanks to the opening of the face of Logo (300m against 2500m).

On this 2nd photog, they also point out the difference of shoulders.
On the one hand the box 1950 for 285 (forms Radiomir with welded handles), of other one, " Bettarini " box (modern interpretation of the box 1950).

Other big not visible difference for a neophyte, the basic bottle-opener of Logo and that more technical of 285.
At first view, no difference, but that of 285 is smaller, stockier, the crown is of type " flat with pie " for logo while that of 285 is a massive part of steel.

Side bezel, nothing comparable, one of the diving, the other handrail.
The bezel of 285 really do not seem to me very qualitative for a watch in this rate.
Other finding than each can make to understand the evolution of design Paneraï, it is this coherence of the form of the box when watches are of face and difference when they notice contour.
285 keep the box portray 1950 (even if they lose delicacy and equilibrium of a box cushion) while Logo (under the pencil of Bettarini) is more a block of steel.

Illustration :

Side face, they can only pay tribute to the face of Logo, simple, nice material, paint.
285, she has a more "finished " face, strapped index, small second, hollowed out needles (as on the majority of the divers Paneraï).

The saphir of logo is very thick but that of 285 is huge.
It is a good point because they give nice distortions when they give filthy looks the watch, like a vintage watch.

Here is backsides:

They point out the certain thickness of that of 285, in reason well brought up waterproof quality and 7750 I imagine.
That of logo is much more flat.

In finale, two very different watches, with each a particular charm.

Logo, emblem of the resurgence of Paneraï.
285, exacerbation of codes of the mark through a technical product.

I admire that Titanium sub very much! Reminds me truly of the Alfa class submarine of the old Soviet Union, in which they were literally titanium submarines! Salute! Stephen

Thanks for the post Caius

2 totally different PAM's w/ different characteristics. For non-Panerai fans, they make look the same but for us addicts, they're 2 totally different worlds Are you eyeing any specific PAM for your 3rd piece? Another Luminor or maybe possibly a Radiomir? ...

Both are nice on their own way, you reallilike the..
