Radiomir Independent PAM 80

Nicolai- this post is for you smile

The most notable feature of the watch (18k WG, 42 mm) is the movement which features the dead-beat second

The 7400 movement is manufactured by Chezard which, in the 1960s, is arguably the leading manufacturer of dead-beat second movements. Simply put, the kinetic power of the balance wheel is reserved in the device between the drive wheel and the second wheel. This avoids the moving speed being affected by the energy difference and allows generation of a constant impulsive power, achieving time accuracy to 1/5 of a second.

160 examples of the model were produced in 2001 and they quickly became a sought-after model. The watch is made more attractive by the royal blue dial (some call midnight blue) as well as the stop-seconds function, which enables accurate time setting.

The second hand stops once the crown is pulled out.

Cuddling with other members of my Panerai family (from left to right: PAM 80, PAM 740 Radiomir Oro Rosso with California dial, PAM 192 in a tantalum case LE=300 and PAM 46 alarm in a white gold case, LE=60)

Hope this brings back fond memories

Best
Sam

I especially like the PAM 740! I wasn't familiar with this rare dead seconds Panerai! Just goes to show, I learn a lot from you and the others on this forum!

Haha

Frankly, the 740 is not a keeper because it is, to the best of my knowledge, not a limited production. However, I have always wanted a Cali dial but 44 or 47 mm is too big for my wrist, hence I went for 42 mm. With the exception of the PAM 192 (which is 4...

I was told limited to 300 pieces

when I bought it from the boutique. Not sure how accurate the information is...

No problem! [nt]

Like it a lot

Perhaps silly question but what the addition of “independent” stand for?

Oh sorry....it means the seconds mechanism works independently of

the rest of the movement. If you look closely on the movement photo, there is a cyclops lens to highlight the independent seconds mechanism. Rather unusual...

Ha thanks

I had done theories about it but this wasn’t one of them so thanks for clarifying

The PAM 80 is exceptional!

And this is coming from a non-Panerai guy. Your strap choices complement the watch well. Nice post. M4

Thank you

Panerai collectors habitually like to play with straps

So beautiful. [nt]

Now, that's a Panerai ensemble...

you don't see very often. Many years ago, in Singapore, a PAM80 has been on offer for a very long time at a reseller's shop. I considered buying it but, even though I hadn't, yet, been bitten by the purist's bug, I never could warm up to the...indipendent...

At one point, I have over a dozen PAMs

Now it's mostly back to the roots, so to speak, going after old PAMs. I guess they have gone out of fashion...

Gorgeous piece [nt]
