more options...

After talking to a few friends, they recommended me to look a while longer for the perpetual calendars.
They told me that when i was looking at the UN El Toro and the Parmigiani, those were very good for the sort of range...
But when i decided i want to buy the JLC Master Control Perpetual Calendar Skeleton, they told me that for that kind of price and range, a lot more option opened up... like the AP Jules Audemars Equation of Time, which is a stunning piece too...

Now I am back to not knowing what to get...
Also does anyone know any Perpetual Calendars with a big case? something like 46mm+ , so far I haven't seen any perpetual calendars thats more than 43mm.... other than the IWC big pilots, which I don't really like..

perpetual calendars

 By: LLZA : July 24th, 2010-06:48
Hi guys, just like to bounce some ideas to which perpetual calendar piece I should get. I am a big fan of Panerai, but unfortuanlty, Panerai does not produce any perpetual calender pieces... just to let you know my tastes, I am proud owner of the PAM 317K...

I would say UN for sure

i have a UN Marine perpetual and love it it is so user friendly and robust cant say enough good things, so go for it

I second the Ulysse Nardin perpetual complication

 By: AnthonyTsai : July 27th, 2010-05:56
I used to own the UN Acqua Marine Perpetual and loved it a lot. The ability to quickly set the date, foward AND backwards, was awesome. Most perpetuals don't let you set the date backwards, so if you accidently forward the month by an entire month, you'll...

Good point

Good point, and advice!! thanks! Didnt know about these problems about perpetual calendars... So now i am narrowed down to The JLC skeleton master control perpetual and The UN El Toro.. Now i have to decide what materials i should go for... Platinum, whit...

The Parmigiani and the U.N are very different.

 By: amanico : July 24th, 2010-07:47
One, the Parmigiani, is more traditional, aesthetically and mechanically. The UN is more modern, and very friendly, as you can set the date forward and backwards, without ruining the movement. Between the 2, I'd say the U.N,, for these reasons. But you ha...

I agree,

 By: LLZA : July 24th, 2010-15:49
these 2 are different, that is why it is harder to decide. I like the modern and sporty look from the UN, and as you said, it is more user friendly. But the Parmigiani has that traditional and classic feel to both its looks and movement which i love to ac...

On the JLC 8 Days Perpetual skeleton ...

 By: amanico : July 24th, 2010-16:05
You have a single pusher to set the date in a synchronized way, which makes it very easy. Not as easy as on the U.N, but quite easy, indeed. This JLC PC is the only one I kept in my collection, because it associates a traditional complication to a modern ...

Totally agreed! [nt]

Really cool

 By: LLZA : July 26th, 2010-16:52
This JLC is really a good looking piece!! also considering this piece now. Although the price is a tad more expensive than the other 2. After you told me about the special function of adjusting all the setting with a single button, went to do some homewor...

My perpetual shortlist

 By: efftee : July 24th, 2010-08:00
1. 5140G 2. Langematik Perpetual 3. Royal Oak QP The Patek, which is the most classically beautiful of the lot in my eyes (still is actually), was sadly too small. The Lange in pink gold is gorgeous but like other Lange pieces that I admire, it didn't rea...

LLZA, I think this is the only black dial Royal Oak QP in production. Good luck with your search for a Perpetual Calendar!

Panerai does make a perpetual calendar - FER15 & FER16

 By: AnthonyTsai : July 24th, 2010-08:39
But it's one of the Ferrari engineered by Panerai watches. Maybe one of these watches will work if you want to stay inside the Panerai family? Prior thread about the Panerai Ferrari FER15 & FER16 perpetual calendar: panerai.watchprosite.com Cheers, Anthon...

Thanks for the info. Didn't know there were these 2 models, but i never really liked the Ferrari family of the Panerai. Will take a note of it next time i visit my dealers. I have been told there is a lot of Ferrari Pams out in the market at moment, and w...

Will do more homework on this!! seems like there really is a lot of options!! I like UN because it is sporty and suits my collection and character.. But the Rose Gold Parmigiani really has a stunning look... Thanks everyone for the advices!!!

Perpetual Calendar is a wonderful complication

 By: Jester : July 26th, 2010-10:15
and frankly one of the most useful complications for wrist watch, IMHO... Looking at your Panerai collection and your current choices of perpetual calendar pieces, I would suspect you seem to have an affection for open dialed pieces? (picture courtesy of ...

Thanks for the detailed description

Thank you for these information!! I think i am going to narrow it down to the UN El Toro, Parmigiani Tonda perpetual calendar, and might consider the JLC Skeleton perpetual calendar if i can get a good deal, since this piece is a bit more expensive.... Wo...

Excalibur Perpetual that you saw is made w/ the same movement as per the two I showed above? If so, this is the RD1429 movement w/ in-line display and instantaneous jump calendar mechanism. i.e. all the day/double digit big date/month (when applicable) wi...

Yes, the excalibur

 By: LLZA : July 29th, 2010-00:55
uses the same movement, RD1429. It does have a neat dial face!!! But the price for this piece is really scary!! it is around US$130 000 - 140 000. It is the most expensive perpetual i have seen so far, although I am quite new to the horology world... But ...

to justify whether this complication is worth the price tag or not. I have to say it's very cool to watch the mechanism in action. I was fortunate enough to have TWO of them for this year's perpetual event and it was interesting, to say the least, to see ...

How about the PAM365, it also shows the night-sky on the case-back, and a Tourbillon for good measure all inside a 50mm case not a Perpetual, but maybe the closest thing with Date, Month and night sky Otherwise, Jaeger's Master Control 8 Days Perpetual is...

47mm+ would be tough

 By: Jester : August 18th, 2010-02:42
and given the complication and costs associated, I'm not sure how popular it might actually be. Having said that, there're quite a few that measures pretty close: 45mm Excalibur from Roger Dubuis, 44mm from the IWC Portugieser Line. Good luck in your sear...
