Nice to read this again! Gave me that time capsule feeling..

Jun 13, 2019,19:40 PM

Truth be told though, I was not as into it back then because of another competing hobby. It was that year that I decided to junk my DSLR system and do a cold turkey switch to an M9. So I was reading a lot on digital Ms back then with another window open to toggle back to Purists articles. But, yeah, I remember the buzz in the Panerai forum during that time. A still wonderful time that was even if Panerai was already under fire for their ltd ed strategies. The 372 was probably the last true accessible gem to come out of their catalogue. You wonder what the next 372 will be. That watered down PAM000 doesn't count :p

Refreshing to read this again smile

Best,

Echi

Panerai SIHH 2011: The return of some legends?

 By: amanico : June 13th, 2019-03:10
This year, Panerai is very productive, to say the least, as they come with a lot of new limited editions, and a bomb, the long awaited " Fiddy Base ", the Pam 372, WHICH IS NOT A LIMITED EDITION. The brand from Firenze started to massively use the Cal 300...

thanks, I must admit many of my dreams are there. Cheers

Don't know how many can come true without close contact with OP sale or senior management. This message has been edited by chronomtr on 2011-02-16 07:08:17

Well, the 372 won't be too hard to get. As for the others, I don't know.

 By: amanico : February 17th, 2011-04:24
I feel the 373 will be quite hot, depending on the decision from Panerai to release, or not, this model in SS... Best, Nicolas.

as always, a thorough report full of insights and observations......

 By: playtime : February 16th, 2011-07:19
I am happy that PAM decided upon the 372..... but love the 373 above all--like you said, a dial that is the epitome of elegance and simplicity. Well suited for the Radiomir case. I'd love to see it in steel one day--but I do like the use of Platinum--perh...

Well, I think I will get the 372.

 By: amanico : February 17th, 2011-04:26
It all depend on how I'm living the fact that I don't have any Panerai in my collection, currently. Do I want to get one? If yes, the 372 will be my natural choice, and the 373 in SS, if it ever comes, will be my 2d and last one. Best, Nicolas.

Thanks Nicolas

Always looking forward to your annual review of the SIHH..

 By: ocwatching : February 16th, 2011-08:13
I agree wholeheartedly with your assessments of the on the 372 and 373. The 372 will, hopefully, lead to new variations and direction for the brand. Should the 3000 pieces be the only pieces, the watch will be in effect a 292J/190 status. Just beautiful a...

It is easy to find one you fall in love with, this year.

 By: amanico : February 17th, 2011-04:34
It is less easy to choose one from all of them. But that's much better than having no dreams, don't you think? 372, for me, then 373, but in SS, so I will wait, and if it doesn't come, the 372 may be my only one Panerai in my collection. What is great is ...

great pics and synopsis

 By: d-star : February 16th, 2011-11:35
thanks. i'm hoping they'll start rolling out sooner than later.

Thanks Nic, my thoughts..

 By: Miranda : February 16th, 2011-13:28
I loved truely the 372...I have already begged my AD for one. This is a superb piece for 2011. But vey closely followed by Bronzo! what a watch...phoarrrrrrr!!!! again on my hand and knees to my AD for this. then, I asked for the 375....as I never was abl...

The " Bronzo " has to be tried, indeed.

 By: amanico : February 17th, 2011-04:43
But I'm a sentimental, and I never forgot the Pam 64, much easier to wear with its 44 mm case, instead of the enormous Bronzo 47 mm case. Somewhat, the 372 is easier to wear, even if the case has the same dimension. And the 47 mm even easier than the Lumi...

Nicely done, Nico.

 By: Davo : February 16th, 2011-14:23
Great post! And I agree with you about OP producing the 373 in SS. I'd pick that up in a heartbeat! But with blue hands? ... nah, I'll take'em just as they are thanks.

Well, the blue hands are historically correct, Davo, on the 2533. We'll see; [nt]

Panerai shines at this year's SIHH.. Lots of great new releases and great improvements on the existing models.. First, I would like to comment on the new P3000 movement.. It's another great achievement by Panerai, to finally make their own replacement for...

Like you; Sam, I would have much preferred seeing solid case backs

 By: amanico : February 17th, 2011-07:25
On these historical pieces. My guess is that Panerai wants to show their " new " movement, the Cal P 3000( wasn't it introduced last year, by the way? ). But if you look at the Pam 127, it was also the solution used by Panerai ( see through case back ). I...

Thanks for "noticing"....

 By: sirjo : February 16th, 2011-19:52
the 373. I understand that the 372 is the object of everyone's desire (for some reasons, not mine) but I do believe the Star of the show, this year is the 373. Every other model has been seen already in one permutation or another, and qualifies it as a......

Ma Che OOOH! :)

 By: amanico : February 17th, 2011-08:28
Tend to agree on some of the developments included in my post, Sergio. More evolutions than revolutions. 2 exceptions, the 373 and the 372, though. Thanks for your interesting input, my friend. Don't forget my wife is Italian and that I can understand it,...

an Italian wife....?

luckily there were no "Z" in my post...hahaha I'll remember this "detail" for future correspondence....hahahaha Ciao - Sergio

The 372 is the standout classic...

 By: patrick_y : February 16th, 2011-22:06
I truly believe the 372 will become a classic Panerai that will be an accessible piece that will closely resemble the most classic Panerais made (like the 127 and the 203). However, the 382 strikes me as a watch that is radically different and something t...

I rate it even above the 127!

 By: amanico : February 17th, 2011-12:51
As for the 382, I believe it is a watch to see again and again, I have some doubts, but nothing definitive. Best, and thanks for your input, Patrick. Nicolas.

about the 372 and the 3000 pce

 By: Bruno.M1 : February 16th, 2011-23:32
If not limited Nicolas, how long will it take before all the 3000 will be delivered ? 3 years ? Every time Panerai shows us a new model with a new movement they can't make many of them in a short period. - The 341, Already 2 years old - ONLY 500 pce and s...

Yes, maybe / certainly 2 years, but is this THAT important to you that the 372 is a LE? [nt]

 By: amanico : February 16th, 2011-23:48
Is that the most important thing, to your eyes? Don't you rather think that the 372 is interesting as a watch, and that LE or not, well, it doesn't really matter? Is the fact that the 372 is 3000 pieces in two or 3 years adds some spice to the watch? Does...

The question is : Can you call 3000 pce limited anyway ? LOL

 By: Bruno.M1 : February 17th, 2011-00:23
Not that important I ordered it and I will buy it, no matter how many they make But like said before; if the 232, 249, 127, 217, were LE I think the 372 should be a LE too. If they make 3000 of them it won't be that hard to get. Do you know somebody who a...

LOL, Hell NO! THat is why 3000 or 10 000, to me it is the same.

 By: amanico : February 17th, 2011-13:02
Pam and Beauty for everybody. That is my program. Best, Nicolas.

Thanks Nicolas, always enjoy the facts & feelings in your report!

 By: swjoseph : February 17th, 2011-00:35
372 is also my favorite and I'm excited by its 3,000pcs non-LE announcement. Whether it will take them many years to deliver is not important to me, but the 3,000pcs non-LE approach means that I have a much higher hope to get one even I know I'm not conne...

Same for me.

 By: amanico : February 17th, 2011-13:05
And I'm happy to see many " old school guys " getting one, like in the good old days. Best, Nicolas.

Great report and YES, you will get one :)

 By: Pilkington : February 17th, 2011-03:31
Dont understand the fear of not getting one, its a 47mm manual wind with plexi (plastic for non wis) at about $10.000... non LE with a minimum of 3000 pcs, everyone who wants one will get one and if you have a little patience you will get one on the secon...

You don't understand which is not a fear, but a doubt.

Till the 18th of January, I had 2 Pre V and the Cali. When I saw the 372 at the SIHH, on the 17th of January, I was sure I had to get it, as my 4th Panerai. Now that I lost my 3 Pannies, do I have the courage to start it again? That is my problem, my big ...

 By: Martin Wilmsen : February 18th, 2011-07:18
Great post! Very nice photos and write up. I disagree with some of your opinions re the new models but I really enjoyed this post nonetheless. Cheers, Martin

Hopefully, we don't have to always agree. It would be boresome.

 By: amanico : February 18th, 2011-13:45
But I think we agree if we say that this is a great year for Panerai, and the old school boys. That is Panerai like I love it. Best, and thanks for your kind comments, my friend. Nicolas.

I agree, with you ofcourse

 By: torromoto : February 18th, 2011-14:46
and I disagree with Martin, for not being able to just compliment you on this thorough analyses...Well done amigo.. Best guillermo

Hola, Guillermo.

 By: amanico : February 18th, 2011-14:50
The old school guy is speaking, eeh? So, are you going on one of these, or are you considering ( I see that you made some room, recently ) a Vintage one??? All the best, my friend, and gracias! Nicolas.

What did you see? haha

 By: torromoto : February 19th, 2011-06:18
Obviously the 372 is a must have. I am still puzzled about the fact it being a regular production. I wouldn't be surprised is something would change along that line. Keeping it regular will keep the costs lower. No Big box, etc etc. Not that all this extr...

Always a pleasure to read your thoughts, Guillermo.

 By: amanico : February 19th, 2011-08:39
To me, the 372 is the clear winner, and yes, if the 373 doesn't come in SS, I don't see the necessity to go on another one. I totally subscribe to your thoughts on the 372 and to the advantages to not make it in LE, especially the reduction costs, which i...

Of course we don't !

 By: torromoto : February 20th, 2011-06:02

Ah I see...

 By: Martin Wilmsen : February 20th, 2011-10:53
Thanks for being so polite, that's highly appreciated. And you're right that I didn't say what I was disagreeing with. So I'll do so now. First, I don't see why Rose Gold is a weird allusion for a historical watch if you take into account that the Pam 21 ...

They amazed me, this year ... Really. As for the hands of the 372, I'm confident Panerai will make them a bit longer, as they are really too short, but we already lived the same with the 232, if I remember correctly, and Panerai corrected them. So, I'm co...

I hope OP will provide the extra Plexiglass as what they did for the previous plexiglass models. Still, kudos to OP for the wonderful news and decision for it to be a regular model. Just my 2cents. Cheers,

Thanks Nicolas for your excellent report............

I have only recently started to visit the Panerai forum and your report has helped me to start and understand about the different models & their numbers. Though it may take me a while to get the hang of the many different models

Thanks for your kind comment, Topcat.

 By: amanico : February 24th, 2011-22:36
The good thing with this 2011 collection is that it helps to better understand what is Panerai, its History and roots. Best, Nicolas.

Go for the 372 Nicolas !...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 13th, 2019-14:51
It’s a good looking Panerai and who cares how many they make. As we know they can always issue a “Limited Edition” and then do it all over again !. Just change the strap for a good custom one. Good review by the way.
