Panerai is still viewed as P A N E R A I. Out there Panerai has transitioned into just..another..watchmaker, competing with other watchmakers on basis of originality and quality and not pure...history. As such, some of the stuff they produce is clearly directed to the...tourists. The ones that don't buy PANERAI but simply a timekeeper that has featuers and looks and cost, which are more...attractive...than other manufacturers. I have often wondered, through the years, what type of models would "the Italians" have produced if, Panerai had not been sold and, to be honest, I haven't found an answer yet. Would have they kept Panerai in a "niche" or would have they, much like Bonati&Co have over the years, chased after market share and $$$$$ accepting the necessary compromises to get there? Personally, I have come to a rather simple conclusion: there are some models I like and others I don't like. No more, no less. Also, let's not forget that, some of the models we frown upon, today, might become the LOGO of the future smile

Watches & Wonders 2020: Panerai

 By: foversta : May 10th, 2020-04:02
Panerai was one of the most active brands during this edition of Watches & Wonders. This is hardly surprising: Jean-Marc Pontroué wants to boost a dynamic and this must be seen. The year 2020 is placed under the sign of the 70th anniversary of Luminor, it...

A freno can’t even understand the Italian spirit of that days. For me Panerai will sink in deep waters if they don’d go back to Italian Roots. Can’t even watch this space watches horrible! Poor Panerai!

Panerai going forward...

Firstly, thank you FX for giving your opinion on the new Panerai pieces for 2020. From my point of view, Panerai are moving in a logical commercial direction, for a brand that has aspirations of sales growth. The use of innovative materials and finishes a...

70 years warranty?

For much do they retail for? If they retail for the usual price then the warranty time is impressive.

Thank you Overwound

Seems to be a very reasonable offer, in combination with 70 years warranty.

or it means these are 1000 USD watches

and they calculated all the costs that can happen in 70 years. btw, Panerai COMPLETELY lost me. Loved them when they made the 232, 249,372 Now with unnecessary materials and unnecessary complications I don't get it they went from an iconic model to someth...

Interesting but not for me.

I think the consumer today is much more savvy than a decade ago. With the current offerings, I think the path to exploring new materials is understandable and a correct approach, but the aesthetics must be carefully thought out. Just like Rolex, I believe...

Your question "The particular effects of luminescence. Are they really essential"

 By: nacelle : May 10th, 2020-10:52
To me at least, a strong no. I still can't help linking the look to "Tron". Luminescence for the sake of luminescence, I don't think so...

Well said...

Any luminescence beyond markers and hands is ridiculous.
